I may get flamed for this (and that would hurt my feelings if only i had any) but I've become a big fan of the vortex razor hd gen2-e 1-6x. It's got the illuminated red dot and the best eye box I've ever seen.
Also, unlike the GI JOE mall ninja commando types, the elevation and windage...
Looks the between Barnes tsx and a-frames, if my rifle digests them well, I'll be all set.
@Hunter-Habib
As an aside, i really enjoy your stories and in-depth writings of equipment.
one last question:
I've read that traveling to Africa the law requires you to use factory boolits.
Is this still the case?
Perhaps i'd just put my handloads in the factory box. No point in building a handload and sighting in drops and such just to have to switch to factory rounds.
Thx much. Great input!
I rebuild, headspace, and handload for old FAL battle rifles so I'm well-versed in cartridge case separation and the balance between setting brass length for reliability vs longevity. I full length resize.
I can set cbto and measure chambers accordingly.

Questions for 375 handloaders
I would prefer to end up with 1 load for the caliber (i know... i know) and use it on everything up to cape buffalo, hippo, and croc.
For Africa travel, I'll run a 300WM and 375 on a blaser so no issue with plains game overkill issues.

I like the RCBS...
This rifle is known on good authority to make your hair thicker, your waistline slimmer, reduce wrinkles, and make you drive a striking likeness to Robert Redford from Out of Africa.
Also... a perfect pithy pairing. Am I right?
I've spent more than my share of time in the elements.
Heat, cold, flight suit, camo, wetsuit... ever had calluses INSIDE your lips from a snorkel or regulator? Had sand rub your body hair off like you shaved it?
Not saying I'm an expert on gear matters but I'm really really surprised to see...
in Texas, 300m is typically pistol range.
Iron sights naturally.
:A Stirring:
In all seriousness, I've hunted with a pretty good mix of former military and "bubbas" around the US.
Short of being in the specialized military programs, most people don't know the difference between FFP and 2nd...
The metal gets quite thin walled and a 6+ inch object screwed to it acts as a lever if dropped that can bend/deform/break the tip (with crown) of the barrel off.
I might just need to be careful or use a QD system.
that's a beautiful piece of history. I'll give it a bump and a smart-ass comment.
The thought of lugging it around hurts my back. You could take out a tyrannosaur with that thing.
Godzilla killa
Let me specify a bit more on my potentially harebrained plan on the irons. And I'm open to feedback such as "you're a daft git!" as I'm thinking this through.
For the 375, I'd hunt suppressed except when on DG when i go to Africa. In that situation, drop the suppressor and use a 1-6x scope...
Appreciate that. Good input, especially the consideration of dropping it and having a can on there cantilever. I'll call Blaser and while i probably won't be able to get the sales guy to tell me if the barrels are surface or through hardened, he should be able to tell me if they'll do it or...
The "One day" thread about blasers is absolutely where you should start - best overall explanation of the system that i found (unfortunately... after doing my own research for 3 months.)
I recommend you check out the site blaserbuds as well if you're still in the exploratory phase.
There's an...
I have a few air force fixed wing (inferior to rotor heads) pilot buddies that are now commercial airline drivers. It's pretty typical across the industry. Part of it is pilot shortage, part is supply chain still not catching up after covid.
I'm in aviation distribution and lead times for...
I prefer black pressed coffee with milk in the mornings and Hendricks gin in a shorty, 2 small ice cubes, and mixed 50% with tonic in the evenings.

Sorry - just saw this. I ended up getting a couple of books for for some reason not this one. I haven't heard back from him.
To be sure I don't throw him under the bus, my PM comms haven't always been clear or timely with some of my travel.
If he gets back to you and you buy this one, I'd...
That's another aspect i didn't consider.
I know it's subjective without doing a proper dimensional stackup, but I'm asking for group experience so...
Do you see that the OD of some of the local options are too large for iron sights?
The 300WM will have glass for distance. Not an issue...

sounds like the 300 will be 1/2-28.
Any feedback or in-country knowledge for the 375? Would also appreciate hearing feedback on barrel length for the 375. I'm considering shortening while threading or starting with the shorter barrel offering.
It seems having enough meat on the barrel isn't something I considered.
I'm planning standard blaser barrel (the lightest version) and fluted for 300wm, non-fluted on 375.
I believe the OD is 17mm on each.
Good afternoon,
I'm putting together a plan to hunt domestically (USA) with a suppressor for my blaser and when I go to Europe & Africa, buy (or rent?) one in-country while there so as not to bother with all the stupidity of our customs laws.
Also - I found this thread VERY informative...
Ahhh... yes. that sounds nice with the cool dry weather. I knew it was southern hemi but from watching videos, people were still sweaty and wearing shorts. Big continent... likely highly variable regions and climates but first impressions and what not. Appreciate the notes.
I certainly...
I use one of these all over the US when i'm doing more hiking than hunting. Mostly in the PNW.
It's got some stretch and i use it to strap right over my pack when i'm out on a 5-7 day living out of a backpack hunt.
If you drop the pack, it also is nice in that it loops over both shoulders...
Greetings gents
Honest question as I'm new to the whole hunt Africa thing. I realize there's a lot of history and romance about the whole thing and I'm not completely immune to that.
Do most of you prefer leather for the historical nostalgia or is there actually some practicality to it?
I...
Safety tip:
If you use a southern compass in the northern hemisphere, your toilet will swirl counter to normal due to localized coriolis distortion field.

I'm accustomed to calling it a 3 position tang safety but maybe I've got that wrong.
As Andrew said, it's 3 position. you can lock the bolt to load and unload.
