one last question: I've read that traveling to Africa the law requires you to use factory boolits. Is this still the case? Perhaps i'd just put my handloads in the factory box. No point in building a handload and sighting in drops and such just to have to switch to factory rounds.

The metal gets quite thin walled and a 6+ inch object screwed to it acts as a lever if dropped that can bend/deform/break the tip (with crown) of the barrel off. I might just need to be careful or use a QD system.

It seems having enough meat on the barrel isn't something I considered. I'm planning standard blaser barrel (the lightest version) and fluted for 300wm, non-fluted on 375. I believe the OD is 17mm on each.

I'm accustomed to calling it a 3 position tang safety but maybe I've got that wrong. As Andrew said, it's 3 position. you can lock the bolt to load and unload.
