Wanted: CZ 602 front recoil lug and screws

Is this the same part that's used in the CZ 550?

.375H&H Barrel length… what say you?

My CZ550's balance very nicely with a 23" barrel, both .375 and .458 varieties. This was at the suggestion of Wayne Jacobson when he did the upgrades. I left the .300 Win Mag at a full 25", its no detriment to balance, just prefer the look of the shorter barrels on the larger calibers.

    What did you reload today?

Echoing Atticus' New England weather woes (although its just cold and windy in CT today, no snow thankfully), I reloaded the following: .38spl 148gr HBWC's for target plinking .416 Rem Mag 400gr A-Frames for my safari partner for cape buffalo this fall .375 H&H 300gr A-Frames for me for croc...

    Binos for Africa

I've been very happy with a pair of Swarovski 8x32 EL's on my three hunts in Africa so far. When I'm sitting in a deer stand in the US, I do wish I had a little more magnification. I keep saying I'm going to pick up a pair of 10x42's, but haven't bitten the bullet yet.

    DANGEROUS 7 and PG...Where?

I can't come to mind with a way to do this in a single location. I'd start in RSA for a white rhino, then hop a flight to Zim for leopard/lion/buffalo/croc/hippo for three weeks, and another flight down to Botswana to finish up on elephant. My biggest concern would be picking 2 rifles to do it...

    Rifle drills for Cape Buffalo

Good, aimed first shot off of the sticks at 50yds, immediately coming off of the sticks, reloading, and second shot offhand at the same target, take the rifle off of your shoulder and reload from your belt without taking your eyes off of the target. Another drill I did quite a bit of was to...

What are your not-negotiables for a rifle?

I've different requirements for different hunts, and therefor different rifles. I tend to lean towards synthetic stocks and some variety of ceramic coating or stainless for ease of maintenance in the field. However, I've a few walnut and blued rifles for their aesthetics. I'm just choosier where...

Is anyone using a red dot sight on their CZ 550 ?

I've a Helia RD on an AHR mount on my .458 Lott. Very quick sighting system. I've a few hundred rounds through it without issue. If I recall correctly, there was some milling i had to have done to the base to fit that sight.

    My first big bore

Definitely a good move. I don't see any left available on Wayne's website anymore. I've half contemplated buying the remaining 270 Howell brass and dies he has listed just in case I cave one of these days and buy the rifle in said caliber Steve Bertram has for sale on GI that's been up forever.
  11. Brandon.Gleason

    My first big bore

Definitely a good grab, regardless, but the jealousy factor will be sky high if it's an AHR build. Did it come with dies and brass??

    458 Lott/Win mag

Seems overly complicated to me. What's the perceived drawback in using Lott brass in a Lott chamber? I've had excellent accuracy from mine, and my only velocity problems have been powder limited (RL-15, specifically).

    Loss of faith in gun

I've a Franchi 48AL 20ga that just doesn't fit me well. I can't seem to get rid of it because it carries so damned nicely in the field, but I seldom carry it hunting anymore. Switched to a Browning GTI (gen 1) in 12ga and use that mostly for upland game now. Fits very similarly to my Citori XT...

    What did you reload today?

Hanging in the gun room most of the day today. Loaded some .308 win for an Alaskan black bear hunt I leave for this Friday. Finished loading ammo for whitetail this fall, including .300 BlackOut for my son and .300 Win Mag for my wife. Now onto a little more .375 H&H for practice ahead of Zim...

Show Your Custom Rifles With Granite Mountain Arms Actions

Beautiful rifles, all. Had a chance to stop by Matt Robert's shop in VT earlier this year (MNR Customs). He's doing quite a bit on GMA actions. I keep weighing one of his Hatari rifles in .416 Rigby or .404 Jeff vs another safari....

    Wanted CZ 550 300 H&H

Waynes price for an action with his safety and trigger is super reasonable for what you’ll get, particularly compared to what a donor rifle would run you right now. I’ve a 300 win mag safari magnum that Wayne did a number 2 upgrade on for me and it’s a dream of a rifle. You’ll be happy having...

    Merkel 140AE,DE - 470NE For Sale

Great rifles. I bought a 140AE Cabela’s special order 14 years ago and it came with a fantastic grade of wood plus a mercury recoil reduced, but lesser engraving. I’ve been extremely happy with the accuracy and functioning of it.

Scope for CZ 550 in .416 Rigby

I love a Swaro Z6i 1-6EE on a versatile range rifle. My 375 wears one. I put a Kahles Helia RD on a 458 Lott and under 100yds I love it. I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a second one to set up as a backup for my 375.

    .585 bolt gun in Africa?

There was a gentleman on AR who bought his father a rifle from AHR in .585 AHR. I believe he took a few buffalo with it. Intriguing rounds, but I'm not sure what they'll do that a .458 won't for a client hunter. That being said, I'm always contemplating something in the .505/.510 realm.

470 NE non solid for elephant?

I woudn't use a soft of any construction on an elephant. Nor do I think you'd find a PH who would recommend/allow it. Although you're planning on a side brain, your shot opportunity (or necessity) may dictate a frontal brain, potentially under duress.

    300wm rifle scope

I’ve had no wants from a Swaro Z6 1.7-10 on my 300 win mag. It’s been used on whitetail and plains game, so no shots beyond 250yds to date, and I don’t anticipate using it further. Just picked up a Z6i for a 308 win for a blackbear hunt in Alaska in September, I’ll likely swap this scope to the...

270 grain vs 300grain which is better for cape buffalo and lioness

I'll be hunting lioness next year and using 300gr Woodleigh PP's out of my 375 H&H running 2550fps. I've used the 350gr version at 2250fps out of the same rifle in 2017 for two cape buffalo with great effect. I wouldn't hesitate to use the 300gr Woodleigh for buffalo.

Does the perfect fixed blade for Africa exist? Whether it does or not, what should it look like?

I've carried a Gene Ingram B&T #4 on every hunt in Africa I've taken so far. I find it the right size for cutting biltong and opening packages. It's right at home breaking down a whitetail here stateside. Haven't put it to heavy task in Africa outside of the below elephant tail.

    Wanted .375 300gr Woodleigh PP

Good afternoon, all. In preparation for a lioness hunt in 2025, I'm looking for approximately 100 Woodleigh .375 300gr PP projectiles. I'm hearing they're going back into production, but no definitive date or pathway for distribution in the US yet. Thank you,
