Bringing 2 guns on a dangerous game hunt?

When I hunted elephant in that area with CMS two years ago, the elephant hunt was all done the first day. So after that I was hunting impala and wildebeest with a .416. It worked OK, but if a 9.3 was available instead, it would have been nicer to carry and nicer to shoot. I greatly prefer...

    Cartridges you just hate

I don't hate any of them, but choose not to use any cartridge with a belt - except of course the .375 H&H. That one gets a full endorsement. I suppose the .416 Remington is OK too, I never owned one, but I would prefer the Rigby.

Single Shot Saturday - Show us your Single Shots!

I sold all my Rugers so now I'm down to only one, a Kreighoff Hubertus in .30R Blaser. It's a keeper! During its first season at home I took a couple of young of young animals with it. This year I used it to take a young mule deer. Wonderful rifle, accurate, well balanced, elegant.

Has anyone else been injured while hunting away from home?

Ha! It took three days until it hurt enough for me to see a doctor and get x-rays done, ( my wife says - no brain no pain!) I'm very fortunate that I've been able to function quite well since it was put back together. The doctor said i'd almost certainly develop arthritis in the damaged head of...

Has anyone else been injured while hunting away from home?

On a winter trip I fell off a snowmobile and left my leg attached. Don't do that. I split the tibia lengthwise up into my knee and ever since I have a couple of stainless steel screws holding my knee together. I don't like kneeling much any more.

Attacked by dangerous game while hunting something else?

I've twice flushed lions at close range while unknowingly stalking the same game that the lions were hunting. One while stalking buffalo and once when stalking eland. No harm came to either of us.

A New Offering Of .375 Holland & Holland Magnum Ammunition Has Been Released On The Market

So it seems most here are judging S&B's offering of a new, economical, available, and welcome addition to the world of medium bore rifle ammunition by it's "failure" to address a niche need for a bullet suitable for hunting thick skinned dangerous game. So what! I say good on them. And wish them...

    Mauser 98 vs Blaser R8

Traditional bolt action rifles are far more complicated than the R8! They require twice as many manipulations of the bolt after firing. - "Traditional" push up, then push back, then push forward, then push down. - R8 - Push back, then push forward. Done. :)

    Case gauge for 9.3x62mm?

I use a standard Mitutoyo digital caliper in combination with the Hornady headspace gauge. I use the Hornady "E" bushing, 0.420". I think it's a better fit for this cartridge than the smaller "D" bushing, since it lands nearly mid way on the shoulder of a 9.3x62 case - just where you want to...

No concern. Beaver pelts are only worth about $20 if prime and properly prepared. It takes a lot of time and effort to properly prepare a pelt. Beavers are a declared nuisance in our local municipality due to the flooding their dams do in fields, road culverts, and associated lands. The...

Beautiful rifle! I predict you'll like it a lot. If you don't mind another suggestion, you may want to drop the Barnes 175 gr. TSX from consideration. Barnes bullets work best driven fast, and the 7x57 although made to shoot 175 gr. lead core bullets, is not well suited to the 175 gr. copper...
