perersencopycat, I know you were looking for a 6.5 X 55 in a Sako Bavarian, but have you taken a good look at the possibility of using a sporterized 1896 Swedish Swedish Mauser. They will shoot any load that the Sako will and at a substantial reduction in cost.

In addition to the animals shown in the post by my oldest son (Art Lambart II) his 13 year old son shot these animals as well using Federal's Terminal Assent. Now he is reluctant to use a different rifle or ammo even after acknowledging it's a bit over-kill for the Whitetails we normally hunt.

I use QuickLoad some use Gordon's. Remember the results are "predictions" and must be treated as such. Either program will help you make better or at least more informed powder choices. Especially when your preferred powder is unavailable.

Tug, when I read your post, although thought provoking, I knew immediately that you'd opened up "Pandora's Box." There are a lot of other parameters as well as historical data / facts that influence the majority of guys here re. caliber selection other than "efficiency."

Ontario Hunter, from all of your previous posts, I think I could "describe" you as sort of a hobby gunsmith. You certainly have done a lot more work on your firearms than the "average" guy. For some this modification might be an easy task, where others would find it daunting.

I believe that you can have a Winchester style three position safety installed. The problem is finding an experienced / qualified gunsmith to do it. I chose to keep mine as it is. You just need to be aware of what firearm you are using. If it is your only one there is no problem.

Depending on the clarity of the scope, you should have an excellent Deer rifle. BRNO(s) are good rifles but not very expensive. For comparison pricing I'd look at the cost of an older Remington 700 in 308 that is in similar condition. Years ago, I paid $600 for mine.

Welcome aboard Nick1982. You are correct, that rifle looks to be in very good condition. I'm sure the subject matter experts will chime in here shortly. There is a Double Rifle gunsmith that can tell you the exact condition if you are interested.

In my dreams, I'd pick the grade 9 i.e. the one on the right in the first picture. But then I'd have to convince myself that shooting it wouldn't result in a cracked or broken stock. It might be different if Rigby guaranteed free stock replacement with equal or better wood. In the meantime, WOW.

Welcome aboard Tarata. We have a lot of Aussie and Kiwi members. CZ(s) are great working rifles. However, you need to make sure that they feed properly. Most need a little tweaking by a knowledgeable gunsmith. Use the AH search function to find out what I'm talking about.
