Help Me Choose Magnification for an "All Around" Hunting Rifle

absales, this subject has been brought up on AH a number of times. I suggest that you do a "search" using the function AH provides. In short, because of the versatility the 375 H&H Mag is known for, the best solution is to have two scopes mounted in QD rings. One low power for up close and...

Range day, preparing for Namibia safari

375 Ruger Fan, while your 404 Jeffery group was within a "minute of Buffalo" we both know it can be much better. Those shooting sticks are a "bit__." More practice with them is the only solution. Were you using "quad" style sticks, a bog pod or the three-legged variety? What scope are you...

New handloads for my 375 H&H

Azklmsr, yours is a very timely thread for me. Here's why, I was thinking about trying a new load for my 375 H&H(s) using CFE223 and 300 Gr. Nosler Accubonds. I recently purchased a 9.3 X 62 for my son. Bob Nelson 35 Whelen has been trying to get me to try CFE223 in our 35 Whelen(s) for...

Want To Buy Sako Bavarian in 6.5x55

Pedersoncopycat, I have about 15 1896 Swedish Mausers in my safes. Some have been given to grandchildren I just store them. The one thing that I haven't seen is an inaccurate one. The last one I acquired was one of the original 40,000 built by Mauser in their Obendorf factory in 1896. I...

    A vote for Timney...good experience.

A year or so ago, I was sporterizing a BRNO VZ 24. I purchased a Timney trigger online from a major parts supplier and had some trouble getting it to work. I called Timney and asked for some ideas. In short order, I was told that I had the wrong trigger for that application. I was instructed...

Info Please on Flying Delta Airlines Non Stop from Atlanta to Africa....

I've been to Africa only three times, all of them on Delta's Atlanta - Joburg. flight. I check my firearms in at my local Delta terminal and don't see them again till touchdown. Sixteen hours is a long boring flight, movies and sleeping take up a good bit of the time, at least for me...

Want To Buy Sako Bavarian in 6.5x55

perersencopycat, I know you were looking for a 6.5 X 55 in a Sako Bavarian, but have you taken a good look at the possibility of using a sporterized 1896 Swedish Swedish Mauser. They will shoot any load that the Sako will and at a substantial reduction in cost.

Montana Rifle Company TSAVO in .375 H&H - Shooting!!!

Montana Rifle Company TSAVO in .375 H&H - Shooting!!!

Mark, when I talked to the guys from Montana Rifle Co. at the SCI Convention in Nashville a couple of months ago, they said they were going to offer all of their calibers in both right and left-handed models. The new MRC(s) are going to be made on a semi-custom basis and will need to be...

I'm the one that said ivory grips were pretty but not functional. Please let me clarify. I shot "Bullseye" at the National Pistol Matches for over 30 years. The match dates and times were fixed. Weather was not a consideration. We shot in the rain as long as there was no lightening in the...

Mark A Ouellette's comments and recommendations are spot on. If you are looking for a 1911 built for beauty alone don't bother with it. However, if you are looking for the best and most accurate American made 1911 available, the Accuracy X is the gun for you. For display purposes ivory etc...

In addition to the animals shown in the post by my oldest son (Art Lambart II) his 13 year old son shot these animals as well using Federal's Terminal Assent. Now he is reluctant to use a different rifle or ammo even after acknowledging it's a bit over-kill for the Whitetails we normally hunt.

    I blame Bob N 35 whelen

USN, Bob Nelson 35 Whelen is a friend of mine, so I'm glad he influenced you to a degree. You were lucky to be able to get a "factory" built rifle. I had to have mine made from an '03-A3. She wears a Boyd's Laminated stock and talk about ugly!! However, I know mine shoots. That is if you...

The most efficient big game cartridges you didn't know you needed!!!

How to reverse a BRNO safety?

Ontario Hunter, from all of your previous posts, I think I could "describe" you as sort of a hobby gunsmith. You certainly have done a lot more work on your firearms than the "average" guy. For some this modification might be an easy task, where others would find it daunting.

How to reverse a BRNO safety?

I believe that you can have a Winchester style three position safety installed. The problem is finding an experienced / qualified gunsmith to do it. I chose to keep mine as it is. You just need to be aware of what firearm you are using. If it is your only one there is no problem.

    Bruno model 21

Depending on the clarity of the scope, you should have an excellent Deer rifle. BRNO(s) are good rifles but not very expensive. For comparison pricing I'd look at the cost of an older Remington 700 in 308 that is in similar condition. Years ago, I paid $600 for mine.

    Rigby Double Rifle

Welcome aboard Nick1982. You are correct, that rifle looks to be in very good condition. I'm sure the subject matter experts will chime in here shortly. There is a Double Rifle gunsmith that can tell you the exact condition if you are interested.

    Which .416 Rigby?

In my dreams, I'd pick the grade 9 i.e. the one on the right in the first picture. But then I'd have to convince myself that shooting it wouldn't result in a cracked or broken stock. It might be different if Rigby guaranteed free stock replacement with equal or better wood. In the meantime, WOW.
