She's a good sport most of the time! I'm way behind on hunt reports...Mozambique, Cameroon, South Africa and more
Agree, DSC in Atlanta just doesn't seem right!
Michelle and I drove into Atlanta from NW Florida Wednesday evening, no traffic problems but I've been stuck in the Atlanta poo-show before and new better. We left mid-morning Saturday and once off the side streets the roads were clear.
Thursday and Friday were great for me! I was the guy...
I don’t use a sling at all, rifle is always in my hands. I tried using a sling but it was always getting caught up in the bush. In tight cover and I’m crouched down, I will have my left hand controlling the muzzle while gripping the wrist with my right. I will only shoulder carry if we are...
Uncle Mikes nylon belt with Murray slider, knife (or folder in my pocket) and two small zip pouches from my backpack belt.
I use a Hill People’s Gear shell holder on the buttstock with additional rounds right on the rifle. Empty the magazine and into the buttstock shell holder they go along...
Sold my 416 Ruger recently and found some additional brass in my reloading room:
30 pieces 1x fired 416 Ruger brass I just pulled out of the tumbler.
Will add in 7 pieces of brass that were used in cycling through the rifle with various bullets. I wouldn’t reload these as they have been...
Based upon your work, I’m having a 12 twist being built on a Model 70, 416 Rem.
Is there even a need for the 400 solids with the amount of penetration you have recorded with the 350gr? I have a large supply of 350gr Barnes flat nose solids that I plan on using for everything.
They worked...
Ahhh, the pictures of Douala baggage claim! Was there in February, we arrived so late from Garoua there was no-one around to do the gun check, we just walked out to the hotel shuttle!
Douala is so much better than Garaou airport in North Central Cameroon!!!
Following along and good luck
Also think the Hartebeest is a cool animal, even more so once you have one on the ground and take in all the features and colors. I’ve taken a Red Hartebeest in South Africa in Sept 2022:
And a Western Hartebeest in Cameroon in February of this year:
They are different enough I’m not sure...
Had a 416 Ruger African with 23” barrel and enjoyed carrying it for many many miles in the hot Mozambique sun tracking and killing buffalo.
Currently have Lex of Rifles Inc building me a 22” 1-12 twist 416 RemMag on a Model 70 SS action with his +1 magazine, should be ready late this year...
A little dated but another option in Harare is Ballantyne’s Lodge. Wife and I stayed there in June 2021 during the COVID mess. No complaints, place was nice and food was quite good. We even stored some of our excess baggage there before our Zambezi River cruise.
Toby, Sounds like we are on a similar path. I became intrigued with the K95 earlier this year and decided on 308 as an all-around cartridge. A rimmed cartridge would be easier to remove but a quick gun search at the time didn’t bring any up I was willing to pay. Especially for for a rifle I...
I was just joking about sharpening the knife but will take you up on the offer as I haven't touched it back up and you can see how it fared, I'll bring it along Thursday night and let you have a go at it on Friday :D Cheers:
Maybe I'll take it along to Cameroon in February!
Dave,
Wife and I would like to join the festivities once again. Can I bring the knife you made and gave away as a door prize? It's a little dull after meeting a Cape Buffalo earlier this year!
I have your address from last year,
Edge
It’s been all over Africa with me from Zim to Moz to South Africa and it will be with me in Cameroon in February.
I’ve taken small and large animals with 300 grain bullets from Serval to Cape Buffalo to Elephant. I’ve used the 250TTSX on plains game from Bushpig to Impala on up to Eland...
Leopold VX-6 duplex with firedot (lit center dot) in very good condition.
Includes the Leopold aluma cap on the objective. Elevation dial is set up for 375 H&H with 235gr Barnes X. Talley rings aren’t included but negotiable.
Scope was taken in on a rifle trade so no personal history but it...
No guarantees, I’ve got a plan…extra $100 USD for scout that finds the oldest busted up bull on the place and I bag it!
if that plan falls through, just want to wear out a pair of boots in a week!
The new 4457 has a field labeled "Number" just above the "Name of Owner" field, what needs to go in the "number" field, if anything? I did a quick google search but came up empty.
