I was looking at a two day axis hunt in Hawaii with no meals or lodging and the suggested tip was $350 a day, besides the cost of the hunt, I didn't book. I work as a mechanic and I sure as heck don't make $350 a day let alone ever get a tip for repairing someone's vehichle. So what it really...
I bowhunted with Karsten Lings this past Aug. everything first class, lots of game and great camp and people! The bugs were very few when I was there In mid Aug. but have been told sometimes worse, I would suggest the 1st of Sept. still good weather and less chance of bugs.
Some PHs are under a lot of pressure from their outfitter to get the package filled. I have had PHs pressure me to take poor shots but ultimately the choice is yours. In the 22 African hunts I've had most PHs were very qualified, only one was completely without experience and a couple others...
Having spent my life in the mountain West with black bears, cougars, and wolves I still maintain the biggest danger is driving to where you hunt, thousands are killed on the highways.
Have found one outfitter that specializes in archery aoudad and so far he is a 100 percent successful, he is hunting Palo Duro canyon on private with feeders. But he is very expensive!. Trying to find a alternative.
Am leaving in two weeks for muskox bowhunt, booked my tickets with travel Express $ 2500 round trip from Missoula Mont. but was only 3 weeks out so short notice flights are higher. I fly from Copenhagen direct to Kangerlussaq.
JuSt about all of my clients capes are dry tanned then rehydrated in a salt water solution for 30 minutes, drained for 20 bagged and put in the frig overnight to sweat, then frozen and thawed when needed. Get another taxidermist and another cape!
Tsala knows night hunting, they assisted me with getting bush pig, civet, and honey badger all with a bow, and I also missed a genet which still haunts me! I hope to do a spotted hunt with them in the future.
Great adventure, thanks for sharing. Hope next time the dogs will not be lazy and leave it up to one dog to bay and hold, they all need to work as a team.
My set up was 73 pounds and 975 grain arrow and broadhead combo with 23% foc single bevel heads at 200fps with 20, 30, and 40 pins. 30 yard shot and only the lighted nock sticking out. Bull traveled 30 yards and went down in about 30 seconds after the shot.
I prefer a outfitter who owns his owns his property, he has more control over everything and will invest in quality hides and infastructure. No one wants to pour money in someone elses land.
