Just curious.. I would consider using it on a Buffalo if I could not get close enough with my double but I prefer to get close.. Definitely would use it in croc and all the think skinned stuff.. I could not find the official policy when I searched..
Thanks everyone!
Swarovski provides an app for your phone (naturally LOL) which connects to the scope via bluetooth. You zero the rifle at whatever distance you want (I zeroed mine to be dead on at 100 meters) then you enter all your ballistic data into the app and upload it to the scope. Elevation and temp are...
I dont disagree…. I think the best Ibex hunts are the European areas. European hunters and guides adhere to ethics, honor and hunting tradition, unlike 3rd world Asia…. My Bezoar Ibex hunt in Turkey was wonderful and of course Spain is hard to beat…
It seems to be the culture in Asia... I know from working in that region that little gets done without the proper bribes..
I had Greg Brownlee on the phone while this was going on and he was instrumental in helping me get it all settled so I cannot blame the agent - this seems to be a local...
Other hunters experienced in hunting Asia have told me it is not uncommon.. I did not mind tipping all 19, what shocked me was the audacity to demand more..
Dates: December 6 to 14
Location: Tajikistan
Species: Marco Polo Sheep and Mid-Asian Ibex
Agent: Neal & Brownlee
Rifle: Blaser R8 300Win Mag / Swarovski DS riflescope
I booked this trip with Greg Brownlee at the SCI Convention 2021 in Vegas. I am not a sheep hunter in the classical sense - I...
I live 10 min from Kelblys and shoot at their range almost weekly.. All Kelbly built rifles are absolute shooters - no question about that... I am actually getting ready to have Ian and team build me a new rifle..
Its not just Africa... Trophy shipments, Cites permits, importer fees - its beyond crazy.. I am headed to Tajikistan in Dec for Marco Polo and Ibex. The cites permits are a disaster, guys are shipping trophy to a Canadian taxidermist and hoping for a cites permit into the US.. I may not even...
I am a self-proclaimed Blaser fanatic :-). I have 3 R8s and 2 F3s along with a whole lot of other guns that never get used LOL!
22 Hornet, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 WIn Mag and 375 H&H are my goto calibers.. I recently put one of them in a GRS Bifrost stock for long range hunting as I am headed to...
Unfortunately any animal shot that is not exported will incur VAT tax in Namibia and I believe RSA.. That includes a wounded animal (just to add insult to injury).. Don't ask how I know that :-(
That's a relief!!!! No doubt if it had still been available when I get there on May 15th Karl would have "found" that bull while we were hunting buffalo and I'd be out 25 grand :)
I am strictly a Swaro guy - EXCEPT for the Trijicon 1-6x24 (I prefer the amber post)…. I am not a fan of Trijicon scopes except for that one - best damn DG Rifle scope I have ever used!!! On 1 power you can shoot two eyes open with ease!!!
Courtney’s for me - 6 pair and counting :-) I have Courtney PHs for hunting and general wear, Courtney‘s in Hippo and in Ostrich for dress.. Needless to say, Jim is happy to see me each year at the SCI convention LOL!
I think you’ll like the 416 Ruger - its an excellent caliber.. Mine is the original Ruger Alaskan with the Hogue stock - hard to beat.. I‘ve killed everything from a lion to a buffalo to a jackal with mine.
Also - the hogue stock really absorbs the recoil and make it shoot like a 375 !
Use premium bullets and well placed shots and you will be fine.. I would consider it a bit light for my taste but it will serve you fine if used within its capabilities…
It’s not what these organizations can do for us as individuals, it’s what we can do for them and what they do for hunting….
One of the most important aspects of these organization is the number of members! The more members an organization has, the credibility is has in the eyes of the...
I flip mine every 3 years once they are depreciated.. There are always guys at my dealership just waiting for those of us that trade low mileage Duramax trucks.. On average, my truck and 15k puts me in a new fully loaded Duramax..
When I stop buying company trucks I’ll stop flipping them...
They do tend to fill up LOL! I’m reserving room for a full mount Marco Polo and Mid-Asian Ibex, have a full mount black bear and a moose euro mount in process right now…. Yikes!!
there are still a few African mounts I would not mind having.. the tiny 10 for example…
This is pretty much where i am now.. That being said, I might feel that way if i did not already have a full trophy room. I like to sit in the room surrrounded by all the memories - otherwise known as taxidermy :)
Damn!! I have to move to Dallas?? If I found another woman that loved to hunt as much as I do, I'd be on one knee in an instant! My first date with my wife she went black bear hunting with me.. and went with me for the next 36 years until I lost her...
Short of hunting Tanzania, I think you picked the most expensive country to hunt :). The hunting in RSA can be fabulous and the entire fence discussion is all perception. I've busted my ass chasing animals that are technically behind a fence to never get a chance at a shot and then I've had...
There are hundreds of outfits that will meet you requirements.. My wife traveled with me to RSA constantly before she passed - we went once a year minmum just so she could sity by the pool and go shopping - yes.. shopping! The RSA women ALWAYS know where to go shopping!!
One note - take her...
So I have to ask... Why?
I travel with an R8 in the Pelican 1700 unless I am also taking my double and then I use a traditional aluminum case. Years before I used an R8 I carried regular bolt rifles with scopes.
I have never had an issue with any of my rifles.. never lost zero, nothing...
Hurts like hell every time we lose one. We lost two between last November and this January. Both lived long, wonderful lives and were loved. I've had people say "I'm not getting another dog because I cannot handle losing them" - I'm the opposite.. I cannot see going thru life without them!
That is an very good price for that setup - unusual for Cabelas LOL!
I have found that enlightenment comes with holding and handling one :). Quality take-down firearm with interchangeable barrels and guaranteed return to zero scope mounts..
I think a big item is the safety factor - an R8 does...
