Second the Nosler e-tip recommendation. The factory Accubond also shoots well in my old Winchester Model 70 in 7x57. Unfortunately, the Hornady .275 Rigby ammo was the worst I tried out of 5 or 6 factory loadings.
I always love the African sky! Where it's safe to do so I will wander away from the lights of the camp or lodge far enough to really take it in. These are from Namibia in 2021 with an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I am planning to take a full frame camera on my next trip.
I've got some on Barnes LRX on hand to try - I will let you know. Precision Hunter is also the best round so far for my 6.5CM. I usually get better groups with those than anything I've hand loaded for it.
I was very interested in this bullet when it came out and I've spoken to several people who report fantastic results. I've tried them in my .270 and .280AI (factory loads) and neither of my rifles liked them.
Piling on in agreement. People have a right to be skeptical at this point (of DSC - not doubting our fellow AH'ers). I will have to judge DSC from their actions from point as their reputation is tarnished, at least in my opinion.
I have a B14 Ridge in .300WM. It's sub MOA with multiple factory loads. I've beat around Namibia with it and used it on elk hunts in the US. I wouldn't hesitate to take it anywhere.
FWIW, I have a Howa 300WM as well and prefer the Bergara.
I am normally in the "heavy for caliber" camp but over the years I've had such good luck with 165's in my '06 it's hard for me to want to stray. I've had good luck with H4350 in lots of rifles, including 30-06.
It's hard for me to say since these are not the normal correct size for me. Opinions seem to vary as to whether Courteneys run true to size/too large/too small. If no one wants these for my asking price, I would consider reasonable offers. I am not really looking for trades though.
Courteney Safari boots, Size UK 11, US 12
These are brand new - they have only been worn for about 30 seconds in my house (long enough for me to realize I ordered the wrong size). I ordered them directly from Courteney in Zim and rather than deal with shipping them back I thought I'd see if...
What a fantastic opportunity! I hunted with Emile and Kou Kuas in Bwabwata this year and I was blown away by the amount and quality of game. And Emile will take care of you for sure. I hope someone from AH can do this and tell us all how awesome it was!
I had occasion to handle this very rifle recently. Thanks @neckdeep! The rifle is a beauty for sure! Remember too, everyone, these will become rarer and rarer.
My personal experience has been better with smaller outfitters. You will matter a lot more to a smaller outfitter being a larger percentage of their revenue and reputation for the year. I think this is just human nature/economics. However, make sure you are getting what you want in terms of...
I feel for what you went through. I have had one bad safari that I would not care to repeat but it wasn't any cheaper than the ones that were fantastic. I think @375Fox has summed up the issues nicely. I would only add that even in South Africa you should be able to find what you are looking...
The warthog was a gift from Africa - we just stumbled across him while looking for buff the first evening we were in camp. It was definitely a dream hunt - it seems like every trip to Africa has been a "hunt of a lifetime".
This hunt was my 6th in Africa, 2nd in Namibia, and first for dangerous game. This was also my first time in the Caprivi/Zambezi region. I was hunting with Emile Kirchner of @KOU KUAS ADVENTURES (the new operator in Bwabwata National Park (West) - who I cannot recommend highly enough).
My...
I'd be curious to hear AH's take on these if anyone has them. I'd particularly like to know how the synthetic fabric feels and how it stands up to use (and laundering) in Africa.
I am of the viewpoint that 9x is plenty for hunting at ethical ranges on non-wounded game. I've done a lot of hunting with the Prostaff 3-9. I have some more expensive and brighter scopes now but all my Nikons still track and hold zero - some after 20 years of use. I agree with the others...
I have shared a camp with Emile and been along with him guiding my hunting partner. I was really impressed with Emile's competence and demeanor. I am looking forward to my first dangerous game hunt with him this year!
Welcome Emile and Koa Kuas!
It seems that button rifled barrels can frequently appear in mass produced rifles of questionable quality. However, as others note, there is no inherent reason button rifled barrel cannot be superbly accurate. I prefer cut rifling myself but the most accurate hunting rifle I've ever shot is a...
I’m still kind of a newby here but I’ve been to Africa a few times and these are the things I would like to have known to consider before I started going:
1. Size, type, and distance to property: A lot of property in some places is fenced (high or low) and you have to decide what you want in...
Does anyone have any experience using the FalconStrike recoil pads? Or, more properly, their "Hydraulic Recoil Reduction System"? If this has been covered before, I apologize. I did not find it on a search. Thanks
I have taken zebra and eland with .30-06 using 165 grain Accubonds. However, I think you need to be careful with your shot angle and distance for these animals with an '06. Under 200 yards should be no problem. For impala and smaller I've shot out to 550 and been pleased with the results.
In case my .02 is helpful: Four weeks ago going to Namibia I was asked for my negative COVID documents both passing through Johannesburg and entering Windhoek. I don't think I was asked on the return to the US two weeks ago. Also, my local Walgreens did not offer the PCR test in sufficient...
