So what about the other English gunmakers? Watson, Cogswell, Army Navy

Army & Navy CSL certainly retailed some pretty rifles as well as the plainer examples. I recently picked up this little A&N CSL 360 2 1/4 BPE for my collection.

That would have been great Chris, but unfortunately I will be away with my next work project. Do you get over this way often? Where is home for you? (I'm from a family of farmers scattered around NSW)

    500 Jeffery Club

Very true GV. I have handled a few 9lb rifles in 500J and whilst the recoil is stout, it is manageable, especially in a field situation

Best magnum rifle reloading press? RCBS Ammomaster2 vs Forster Coax?

I ended up with the Zero and the Heavy Prazipress 140, purely because of 50 BMG loading which the big Prazipress does with ease.
  13. C

    500 Jeffery Club

The rifle is heavy and weighs around 12lbs empty. Perfect weight for a 500 Jeffery IMO.

    Gibbs 360 No. 2 NE

Thanks BeeMaa. Yes, timing certainly is everything. It is nice to own an odd chambering that can still be used effectively for most game.
  15. C

    Gibbs 360 No. 2 NE

Thanks Huvius. The previous owner has a supply of cases and dies which I will be receiving shortly, so that should keep me out of trouble for a while. I believe there are some 450/400 3" formed cases amongst them as well. The Gibbs Farquharson in 360 No. 2 would have been lovely!

    Gibbs 360 No. 2 NE

    Thanks, will do

    Gibbs 360 No. 2 NE

In its past life the rifle has taken a lot of water buffalo here in Australia. It would be nice to do another buff hunt at some point, but for now I will be putting together some loads and getting familiar with shooting it. The 360 No. 2 packs a good punch, and is largely forgotten about these days

    Mauser M98 416 Rigby

Unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to use the rifle due to work commitments. I did have another M98 in 416 Rigby before this one, and found it to be a great rifle. It handled and shot well.

    Mauser M98 416 Rigby

Thanks. I am not planning on a scope at this point, but if I do decide to fit one, I would be using Schmidt Bender as I like them and have used them for years.

    Mauser M98 416 Rigby

I really like the feel of the rifle, and it fits me well. Fit and finish of the metal / timber is also nicely done, without being over the top. Chris

    Mauser M98 416 Rigby

Thanks. The timber turned out better than I expected, as it is not always what it seems when looking at photos and then handling the real thing. Chris

    Mauser M98 416 Rigby

Ordering was very simple through the local Mauser importer here in Australia. After calibre choice was confirmed, the Mauser factory supplied a selection of stock timber to choose from, and that was it. All very easy! Chris

    Mauser M98 416 Rigby

I took delivery of this Mauser M98 Diplomat in 416 Rigby last week. It took about 15 months from order to delivery here in Australia, which is not too bad I guess. It will be a while before I can take it out for a shot, but looking forward to it when I can. Chris

Reloading for 416 Rigby in 2024

Reloading is great. You will also need to factor in the cost of quality reloading equipment (unless you have that already) plus the appropriate dies for the 416 Rigby.

    585 Nyati casing trim die

Thanks. Recoil is heavy but manageable. Rifle weighs approx 12lbs at the moment but looking at restocking and having the weight of the rifle sitting at around 14lbs. The rifle was built for a previous owner who never used it.

I'm looking to find a source a trim die for the 585 Nyati cartridge if anyone can help? I have spoken with Forster about custom trimmer options, but they are not doing any 'one off' work at present. Thank you

    R8 safari questions

I have a R8 Professional Hunter in 500 Jeffery (previously owned by a member on here). It has had some weight added and comes in a touch over 11lbs. It has the steel receiver and is a comfortable rifle to shoot in the big 500J cartridge. The Blaser rifles are superbly accurate as well.
