Thank you Velo Dog! Screen name is indeed from the River Spey and/or the very small Loch Spey. Visited the highlands in 2012 and hope to return someday. Love Scotch and there are many distilleries on the River Spey. Although I am poor at nosing Scotch I usually drink the peaty ones from Islay (8...
I was thinking after posting it that my .375 H&H probably had more recoil than that recoilless rifle in the pic. Never actually shot one but our armory was having an inspection and we were told to load up a deuce and a half (2 1/2 ton truck) with it and other weapons that were "off the books"...
A little late for an intro but as you can see I have been here for a couple of years. I just got back from my first African hunt in Limpopo two months ago. Shot a Cape Buffalo using a .458 Lott and several plains game animals with a .375 H&H. I am in the early stages of planning for a DG hunt in...
My .470 is my first double that I plan on taking for DG next time (Used a .458 Lott on buff this year). I bought an old SBS shotgun that has the same manual of arms as the .470, triggers, safety and action release. I use this for sporting clays at times so I practice on moving targets as well as...
Doing all that everyone has posted here ahead of time is certainly a P.I.A but is the real work. I just came back from my first SA hunt and was pleasantly surprised how smoothly it all went because of proper prep, there and on the return to the U.S. Have fun, don't stress as much as I did.
Beautiful report, I enjoyed it very much. I am only two weeks back from my first SA hunt and have the blues, I can not wait to go back. I wake up in the morning and don't know what to do even though I have much to do. Everything is different now...
Nice buff. I am hunting with Ken Moody in less than a month! Met him and Virginia in Columbus early last year and felt comfortable with them right away.
Larry Csonka. Watched some of his North to Alaska shows years ago. Loved watching him as a full back- back in the days when you made a touchdown and just dropped the ball in the end zone cause that was what you were paid to do, not act like a clown.
I am thinking back to the 1980's when I first wanted to have a career in a southern African country as a small airplane pilot that many of the established trails or roads were rutted to a certain wheelbase, either Toyota or Land Rover but I do not recall. Maybe both? American trucks would...
No, I get it. I don't think I am weird but who knows? I don't think either of us are weird, maybe more of a romantic type especially if you have read as many of the classics on African hunting as I have over a life-time - and if I take my Heym 88 in 470 NE and don't get a buff I at least hope I...
My first post and I want to say thank you for the insightful report. Been lurking for a long time now and learning from many of you. My first Buffalo hunt is scheduled for one year from now. A lifelong dream... 61 now.
