    2024 Deer Season

No monster bucks for me in 2024 deer season, but a couple of nice ones for the pot and frying pan. A nice fat 3x3 in WY in Oct., followed by a nice little 9pt. in Texas in Dec., then a first for me in PA a hard antlered 5 pt. doe. Until I rolled her over to field dress her, I thought that I had...

I found myself with some time to kill in Wyoming last week after tagging out early on deer and pronghorn, so I picked up a small game license and chased these little devils around for a few days. What a blast!

    Just a cool photo

I have to give the credit for the photo to my son in law. I was focused on getting the animal cleaned, loaded and back to camp before the sun went completely down, he is the one that said, "we can't miss this photo op".

    Just a cool photo

So, it wasn't my best antelope or my most memorable hunting experience but that sunset! I just had to share. The smoke from the wildfires burning in Wyoming really added some extra color to the sunsets.

USA: Chasing Cinnamon Teal In Strange Places

I believe this is the Holy Grail of duck hunting, that you were referring to earlier. This one was wounded a few days before I hunted there and could not fly, it just kept darting in and out of the reeds. On my last day there I had him in front of me at about 10 feet, I pulled up and quickly...

So, I Was In The Loading Room Today...

I did a little experimenting with my 300 BLK while I was loading. I reduced my sub-sonic loads by .3 of a grain of powder and was shocked by the results. My average velocity went from 948 fps down to 806 fps. I was not expecting such a dramatic loss of speed. Accuracy also suffered quite a bit...

So, I Was In The Loading Room Today...

My wife went to spend a few days with our youngest daughter and the grandkids, so you know where I spent my day. Got caught up on 30-06's for Wyoming in a few weeks and also loaded up some nice quiet, sub-sonic 300 BLK's for the upcoming whitetail season here in the neighborhood. Every time I...

    Nilgai hunt

I used the guides 6.8 Western. He disliked my 30-06 with 180 gr. bullets, he said, and I quote " the 30-06 just doesn't have enough ass behind it." My immediate response to that was that he had never hunted with the ass behind this 30-06. But not wanting to get into it with him any deeper I just...

    Nilgai hunt

It was an amazing adventure for sure, about as close to a safari as you're going to get. I probably wouldn't do it again in May though, the triple digit temps and humidity added an extra layer of brutality to an already tough hunt.

Have you completed the North American Super 10?

I must admit that I have never heard of the Super 10. Looks like I have 9 out of the 10 covered but will probably never complete it, as I have no desire to shoot a cougar. I am old enough that I was able to hunt most of these critters without messing around trying to draw a tag, one of the few...

    Whitetail deer season 2023-2024

Whitetail season for me wasn't the best this year, very little deer movement around here during the two-week season. But it wasn't a total bust I did manage to get my 300 BLK a little action with this nice doe.

Need assistance finding ammo and reloading components for 38-55 Win

I like you drove myself about nuts trying to figure out what brass and bullets to use in my Winchester 94 38-55 manufactured in I believe 1979. Then I read some articles that were written by custom bullet manufacturers that are a darn sight smarter than me and followed their advice. I went with...

Need assistance finding ammo and reloading components for 38-55 Win

I just happen to have a couple hundred new Starline 38-55 cases that I don't need. They are the longer cases that the newer Winchesters use. I ordered them from Starline, they got put on backorder. I gave up on them after about a year and found some new Starline bullets at an auction. Then a few...
