    How much Ammo is “Enough”?

If having ammo for the best .30 caliber cartridge ever devised is a problem, just send it my way! The original Weatherby boxes were very cool. I would love to get all of the animals. Fox - .224, .240 Whitetail Deer - .240, .257 Tiger - .257, .270, 7mm, .300, .375 Grizzly Bear - .257, .270...

If there is a "high-end" local gun shop nearby, you might want to use them to do a consignment. I'm in Georgia. There would be 2 gun stores in the entire state that I would consider... 1. Chuck's Firearms in Atlanta 2. Kevin's Sporting Goods in Thomasville I can't think of any others in this...

My Favorite Actor & His Rifle

I am a Weatherby fanboy! I think Roy was very ahead of his time on cartridge development, and even, to this day, his grandson, Adam is still innovating. Probably a good move in relocating from Californication to Wyoming. In almost every caliber, Weatherby makes the most powerful cartridge...

Recommendations on what bullet to use on a Nile Crocodile?

I, once, got to see both lying side by side when fishing in the Everglades. I took a picture, but can't find it to save my life. Sometime things range much farther north than they are "supposed" to live. A bonefish has been caught in New Brunswick, Canada!

Recommendations on what bullet to use on a Nile Crocodile?

When I was considering taking a croc in Mozambique a few years ago, I had practiced putting a .416 Hornady DGX in the brainstem. I would do whatever your PH recommends. With crocs on land, you want to make a precise shot with well constructed expanding bullet, just to make sure that it...

    5 Stand

A 5-Stand range is great practice for real hunting situations, as is a "Sporting Clays" course. (until you learn the course "too" well) A long time ago, Trap and Skeet was, but they have largely just become just a "game" unto themselves (Trap, less so than skeet, for actual hunting...

    375 H&H - DGX/DGS or TSX?

DGX has worked perfectly for me for buffalo, albeit with another chambering. 1 shot kill - .416 Rigby My rifle shot DGX and DGS to the same POI, so I carried some of both, just in case. My rifle, a CZ 550, was a less accurate with factory TSX, so I didn't use them. Barnes ammo was much...

    Hornady's next big creation......maybe?

Hornady just needs to stop at this point. Actually they should have stopped developing new cartridges 10 year's ago. IMO, nothing substantial has actually been gained, and most of this recent stuff won't even be available 10 years from now.

Chainsaws and those who use them

Battery powered chainsaws are, IMO, more dangerous than gasoline powered chainsaws, and can be VERY dangerous, especially, to uneducated chainsaw users. My brother, stupidly, bought one for his wife, because he didn't have any idea about how to properly operate a chainsaw. 1. Because they are...

Kevin lives in Africa, so he sees the value in collecting this old bull. (I'm pulling for you buddy!) I live in America, so I have a different "mindset." I would only take it if is was offered at a great price, or if hunting kudu, to me, were so common place, that I could give the old...

    How much Ammo is “Enough”?

I am fortunate enough to live in a rural area that affords the opportunity to shoot quite a bit on my own property..... (A far cry from Hickok 45, however!) I probably fire at least 2,500 rounds of something every year.

    How much Ammo is “Enough”?

"Defensive arms" aside... I like to have at least 200 rounds of proper factory loads that shoot well in the rifle. (Because, inevitability, the manufacturer will quit making it)

Eley Tenex is expensive and is a great ammo, but some rifles don't like it either. I have shot several "perfect scores" with Federal Automatch from my CZ, but I no longer want to risk the "flyer," that come along about once every 50 rounds. If I was looking for an inexpensive, but very...

    Caliber recommendations

Yeah, I wouldn't want to deal with customs with a suppressor. The reason I would go with a .30 caliber suppressor as opposed to a .338 is simply the versatility of the .30 caliber and using it on other rifles like something chambered in .300 Blackout, which is really quite. My son puts one...

How many guns is “too many”?

I think we may be on the "same page." 100% of the rural Americans I now know and associate with, own and know how to use more than one gun. Male, female, and everyone older than 12. Life is still good in most of the hinterland.

How many guns is “too many”?

I know we are mainly speaking of the US here, but it is amazing to me about the dichotomy of the urban/suburban person vs. the rural person. I have (briefly) lived in two, somewhat, urban areas in my life. Most of my life has been spent in rural areas. I, literally, don't know a person...

How many guns is “too many”?

I enjoy obtaining rifles chambered for many, various cartridges. I am a contrarian, to those who want to "downscale" to just a few chamberings. The ammo shortages of a few years ago taught me the folly of having only a few chamberings. There have been at least two times in the last 15 years...

How many guns is “too many”?

I think the limit is either where you run out of secure storage space or if gun collecting starts to cause financial issues. If they are secure, I think that guns, probably even more so that precious metals, are one of the best investments a person can make. Golden Rule: "He who has the...

Best All Around Caliber for Plains Game

IMO - The .300 Weatherby Magnum is the best .30 caliber ever devised. Roy Weatherby developed it in 1944. Winchester developed the .300 Winchester Magnum in 1963. Remington came along several years later with the .300 RUM. Then, Weatherby came along again, with the .300-.378 Weatherby...

With a .338 Win. Mag or a .340 Weatherby Mag., at least, you don't have to worry about the bullets in rifle. The most inexpensive factory load of "cup & core" bullets will, cleanly, take any PG. Kudos, to you for not wanting to try to take an eland with a .243, arrow, pistol, or blowgun!
