    No frills double

Find an early 20th century English gun, maybe have to put some love into it but it will be a piece of history and completely functional….it all depends on budget. As previously mentioned if you want to buy a new modern, Heym , chapuis, merkel are the best for the money new guns with traditional...

    Yellowstone prequel 1923 double rifle

RIA is going to have all the guns of Yellowstone series for sale in the near future. Spencer in an episode of 1923 was asked and he said it was a 416 rigby, which you are correct was not period correct, it appear to be an incorrect action type for that period as well if I remember correctly the...

Dire Wolves brought back from extinction

Re-engineering large predators or any of the fawns from that era, not a good idea. Nature wanted them extinct, it should be left alone. What’s next, the great saber tooth cat introduced into the Rockies. Ya, great idea.

    Would you shoot this bull?

I’d shoot anything that was free and needed to be removed. A buddy and I once shot 13 springbok on the last day of a Namibia hunt for $50 a head. The first 7 days of the hunt were spectacular both of us taking many great trophies. Note to self African outfitters…don’t casually mention at...

Rigby / Holland & Holland / Westley Richards

I’m trying to understand the context of all this information, perhaps someone could catch me up. It seems to me that you are calling the current rigby out as being smoke and mirrors so to speak? I’ve mentioned in previous threads that pretty much all the elite firearms brands over in England...

Can anyone ID this stock makers mark ?

I would check with gunmakers guild and see if someone there recognizes that mark. Looks American style to me, unusual no checkering though. Looks a little Gary Goudy like but not that cheek piece, don’t think he ever did that swirl on the back end of it.

Buffalo Bore Video - HORNADY NO BROTHERHOOD! NO LOYALTY!

The good old days for independent reps was in the 80’s & 90’s, pre micro manager/bean counter tools like email, spreadsheets, teams calls, call reports, etc. if people only realized when you have to have a team of people making sure another team of people is doing what they want them to do...

    45-70 dangerous game?

Buffalo are a very tough animal. I agree with most on here, there are better choices than a 45-70 for buff. That being said, I worked for a guy named Ed Stevenson for a spring back in early 2000’s can’t remember exact year, but that fella arguably had more experience killing giant bears than...

    45-70 dangerous game?

On one trip I took to Mozambique I was in quite a precarious situation twice with lions. I’ve never hunted lions but I’m guessing that they are easier to put on the ground than a buffalo….but after being in that situation, it would be hard to imagine a better cqb lion rifle than a lever action...

    45-70 dangerous game?

45-70 can mean a lot of things, I for one wouldn't hesitate to use for example the buffalo bore 430 super hard cast flat meplate solid at 1925 fps on buffalo or anything else big,...couple that with incredibly fast follow up shots, whats not to like about it. That being said, I'm probably never...

    Clothing? + gaiter recommendations

I'll second the Boyt Gaitor recommendation. I like wearing gaiters, they keep sand bugs, seeds out of you boots, if you wear tall boots you can probably go without. Light jacket, couple sets of clothes, a good hat, sunglasses, rifle, ammo, binos and you're ready to go

What’s the One Piece of Hunting Gear You Can’t Live Without?

I don’t think I could be without some sort of light, either a handheld or my favorite is a small surefire single cell light that hangs around neck on a lanyard. Perfect for getting around at night in camp.

    475 No2, how usable?

I think Bertram still makes the brass, finding bullets I reckon will be the hardest part. That outfit CH4D in Ohio USA can make you dies,.....and if you want to go down the rabbit hole for bullets you can buy moulds from Accurate Moulds and have Montana bullet works make them with super hard...

Bullets that well advertised but were not that great

Nosler Ballistic tips were never great, but they were easy to get to shoot well in most guns, and a lot of custom rifle makers nowadays still tout these explosive type bullets in "super accurate" custom rifles, along with all the others, berger, hornady, etc. Show me a Gunwerks or any other...

Bringing 2 guns on a dangerous game hunt?

An elephant hunt is the only hunt I would take two guns, double and good 375 or 40…..unless you can scope your double. Otherwise I only travel with one rifle.

Help me join the 21st century regarding scopes

If you're going to spend 2-3k on a scope, buy a Swaro or Schmidt and Bender, I've owned and used many S& B scopes over the last 25 years and IMO they the pinnacle of rifle optics, I've added 2 or 3 Swaro's into the mx in the last 5 or so years and have had great experience with them as well.

Help me join the 21st century regarding scopes

1" tube Swarovski Z3 3-9x36,....its a real shame they just discontinued it. Should be able to find one for $750-800. It doesn't sound like you are a 2k-3k scope guy, so don't start now. I just put one of these z3 on one of my 375's and I love it.

    Reimer Johannsen Safari Rifle

I had, handloaded, and used both, if I had to choose, I would do the 500 J, shorter action, shorter stroke, easier to load in a regular press, and can get great performance out of a shorter gun with shorter barrel.---->IMO

The "Best" big bore cartridges ever created!!!

I would argue that the 500 Jeffery is one of the best big bore calibers, and here's why. Operates on relatively low pressures, can be built on a standard length action, brass lasts forever, I've gotten 9 firings out of a set, sure could have went further. And, as a handloader, I've been able...
