Just got another Sako L61R for the collection. It came with a Redfield Gold 5 Star 3-9x50 and I swapped it out for a Leupold 3.5-10x40 Illuminated.

Welcome fellow New Hampshirite. I am located in SWNH along the CT river. I took my first safari in June and will be going back in 2026.

A little redundancy with 30-06, 338WM, and 375H&H however it would fit nicely in that area that is open.

Mind reader…. 404 Jeffery was what I am thinking I just have to find a Sako donor action at some point as I am going to have MNR Custom build one when the funds allow. It is never to early to start shopping for components.

I added a shelving unit for brass and bullets which allowed me to pretty much group by caliber and now that I have created this space it appears I could add at least one new rifle caliber to the fleet… I am sure the enablers around here will have some opinions on that.

350 Rem Mag would be nice to see. :)

Used Igala for my first safari back in June. Very impressed with the cameraperson. I am highly anticipating the video soon. The key was not even realizing they were there. The price was reasonable and was all inclusive. My outfitter did not charge a separate day rate for them as he refers them...

My PH in EC uses 200gr ELD-X in his 300 Win Mags... They work very well, I am a Barnes guy myself.

I used IMR4064 with 165gr projectiles back in the day and since I am waiting on my new to me 30-06 that is where I plan on starting again. I will be using the TTSX and Interlocks both in 165gr in this gun. I have noticed that a lot of my hunting guns and loads are calling for Ram Shot Big Game...

That should be okay, what distances are you anticipating? My .338WM was running them at about 2755fps with a 210gr. Killed a Red Hartebeest @305yds DRT.

Me too. I use them so mine are not collectors for sure but they are in great shape for their age, which in most cases they are older than I am.

My hunting rifles are pretty much all Sako. It appears we have very similar taste. I got spoiled when the 7mm-08 was gifted to me from my stepfather when I was 16 or so. I had a choice between it and if I remember correctly a .257 Robert’s, which I do not recall the make as it was many moons...

I got my work cut out for me... Just picked up a Sako L61R 30-06 so that is on deck along with my Sako L57 7mm-08(used to be a .243). Really trying to hone in on all these Sakos I have as they all shoot damn well.

Both pressure test loads for the 338 & the 375 are complete. First time loading for the 375. .338WM- 68-72grs in 0.5 increments of IMR4350 with the 200gr Hornady SST on top .375H&H- 64.5-68.5grs in 0.5 increments of IMR4320 with a 300gr Hornady DGS on top

Thank you for reading it. To make the shots better I just need more practice on the sticks and better reading of the angles on my part, it was definitely doable just a lack of patience and skill at those distances.

I believe I was correct but it might have been blesbok. All I know is there were lots of animals. Many of which I still could not tell you what they are with my naked eye from a distance. I will be able to clear it up when I get the video.

It was a great time and thanks for reading it. The lost animals definitely sucked but I own it. My limits were tested and my ability was challenged. Hindsight is 20/20 and I am looking forward to the return to Africa.

Conclusion: This trip was absolutely amazing and a learning experience. Not everything went well and it was fully my fault for the lost game. I had all the right tools and an excellent PH. They got me on every animal on my list and we even saw others. At one point I was asked more than once...
