    7x57 or 358 Norma Mag

I think that once upon a time hunters knew how to shoot, where to aim, and when to run. Now anyone who pick up a rifle seems to think they are snipers. The 7x57 would be my choice (or a 275 rigby, as you shoot a better class of animal with a rigby) as it’s been successfully doing it since 1892...

Utilitarian Reasons to Own Similar Rifles in the Same Caliber

Actually, no it’s not. 303’s have sloppy chambers that fire form factory spec brass, each time you resize it it work hardens the head area, which can’t be annealed, necks can. The brass life will extend with only neck sizing. My 25-35 chamber is quite different from the dies I have,(CIP vs sammi...

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Selous had one https://www.bonhams.com/auction/17947/lot/298/a-very-rare-holland-woodward-patent-256-falling-block-rifle-by-holland-and-holland-no-21873-built-for-fc-selous/ It’s hard to find information on it, mine was on a Mauser action Gumpy

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

We could also bring back the 256 H&H magnum as well……I may happen to have an original barrel and dies, including forming die. They only made about 200 of them. I unscrewed the barrel off a 98 action for another rifle build…..could always put it back on an action….. Gumpy

You don’t own any military 303 rifles, obviously. I neck size a lot of my brass to extend its life. Gumpy

What do you use to prime 416 rigby cases?

I made a new one out of 4140 as it would take too long for one to get here and the importer doesn’t seem to care about service. My other gripe with it is that the primer seating pin thing can stick in the shell holder, it just catches and will often drop back down by itself, just something to...

Utilitarian Reasons to Own Similar Rifles in the Same Caliber

Is this for hunting or competition? For comps, it would be for different styles of comp, ie:offhand, bench, prone etc For hunting, it would be different styles of hunt, ie: from a blind, walking open ground, thick bush, etc Gumpy

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

No idea and don’t really care, goes bang and things fall over, is more accurate than a mates tikka at 500 yards ,7 mm rem,(less assumed drop) and bolts opens easy and no obvious pressure signs, from memory case capacity is slightly higher, and has old school cool factor. Gumpy

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

What do you use to prime 416 rigby cases?

RCBS automatic bench priming tool, I’ve only used it to prime some for a friends 416R but use it for my 404 without issue Gumpy

    A vote for Timney...good experience.

 Little did you know, but I only have one eye I worked on a cz416 rigby that had a set trigger, who knows why you would want a set trigger on a rifle like that……anyway, I adjusted it till the set wouldn’t work as the standard pull was quite reasonable after a bit of work Gumpy

    .416 Ruger Brass issue

I don’t know much about buffalo bore, or they production amounts, but the few smaller companies out here that produce ammo run all of it through dies so start with, litigation is a big thing to worry about. But aside from that, it does appear that hornady has slipped up a bit, I wonder what went...

    .416 Ruger Brass issue

Newly Acquired Jeffery .333 Nitro Express

Depends on what the finish is, and how much you want to do. If it was mine, I would probably strip it back to clean wood and lightly apply an alkanet red oil to it to try and give it the old English look and make the grain stand out , then apply multiple coats of linseed oil over several weeks...

    Shoulder Bump questions

I was taught to resize to the chamber, not some arbitrary size in a book. It does make it a bit more difficult for multiple rifles of the same cartridge with different ammunition requirements, but not insurmountable as a texta mark on the bottom shows which rifle it belongs to. Gumpy

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

This is closer to what I’ve been saying about the extended mag well, this is a forum member’s original firearm with the extended mag on a standard stock, no extra wood. Zastava 300 WM

I assume you mean the zastava m70 sporting rifle, which is a fairly good copy, some had issues with scope holes drilled off centre. Which could be corrected by appropriate rings and bases, they are well made in general out of good steel. Gumpy
  41. G

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

In the second picture the metal goes down around the front of the trigger guard, mostly for looks, and the mag well and opening has to be modified (lenghtened) or they won’t work, I’ve already done that when I remade the original one Gumpy
  42. G

    Zastava 300 WM

May need feed lip work, most likely will, I’ve got a barrel off one that was converted to 338 and that still needed some love to get it to work Gumpy
  43. G

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

The second one is more like I’m going to try for, the first picture one holds just the spring and follower, but the general idea is there, smooth rounded corners and avoid sharp edges Gumpy

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

  46. G

What is it about 404 Jeffery?

Yes, it’s just a swollen floor plate , hangs down around 1/8” - 3/16” lower than factory one, really they just hold the mag spring and follower a bit lower than the bottom of the magazine well. Only the bottom part of cartridge number 4 just sits in there. I could get really enthusiastic and...
