David, 8/27/2025 is the day we are allotting time for our visit with you at Rigby. How much time do you need to share the experience? Thanks again for such a wonderful invitation!! Alan
Oops. Sorry. Do have a query. Have a 132 series 375. After a range day I recognized that the black Bakelite recoil pad backer was cracked on each side of the top screw. Went to investigate others and the 300 win mag is the same. Both from the 70’s. Anyone else seen this?

There’s a couple of things that possibly would help with this issue. A number of manufacturers show cheek pieces online. Several custom manufacturers on Pinterest. Galco, Triple K, Mason are available without shell loops. I would also be sure that my scope rings provide the proper eye relief. I...
Awesome!! I haven’t done a bedding on a No1. A friend bought a bargain once when he found one locked up at a pawn shop. The fore end screw was missing but wood was tight!! It shot decent but we did replace wood and cleaned up compound. After a new forearm and a tensioner it was a good bit...
A couple of things. Hicks accurizer is a great addition. Try to put rest immediately forward of receiver. No bipod!! I have put several layers of credit card shims to get a free float. Shims are not a permanent fix just evaluate. Number one forearms exert 30-60 in/lbs up pressure
Somewhat more available but similar in performance would be a 358 Norma. Availability of brass, ammo would be easier as would a smith having a reamer available. The cool factor of the 350 rigby though is irresistible !!
A friend has a 9.3x74. Interesting rifle. Has light contour 24”. Have shot a 1A in a 35 whelen. Recoil was interesting. A 350 rigby just has a marriage of Ruger and Rigby that’s intriguing. Would be fun in the 1s with a 26”.
I’ll put in my 2 cents. My ph said as have others that the first shot is what counts. BE practiced and type is of little concern to him. I have shot up to a 456 Lott in a number one. Not for the meek!! That saying I had an amazing friend leave me a 70 in 458. He was concerned about my pop gun...
A kimber Caprivi in 375 would be an option. Though discontinued there are a few out there. Depending on country taking your own is no problem. Baggage handlers are the biggest concern! Winchester safari express 375’s are out there as well with wood stocks and are with the post 93 crf actions...
David, such a great extension of the historic Rigby hospitality!! We be plan to be in London the end of August. As we set up and confirm plans I will make contact. Is this available on weekends or weekdays only? Thank you
Question in reference to the aforementioned Jard trigger. More suited for a varmint style or is it suitable for any and all? Addressing eye relief I’ve gotten along well with either a single offset, occasionally needed double offset. Do wish Ruger would recognize that 30mm optics need the...
If in pursuit of a wood stock Kimber built Caprivi DGR. The ones I’ve seen are very nicely executed. Should be in the 3-4k range depending on condition and optic. 375 and 458 if I remember correctly
have the 280AI. Surprising performance. With the super light barrel I had a significant shift with suppressor as to poi. Currently in exploration mode.
Select grade is wood stocked. Sometimes with ebony tip. Pistol grip cap. Blued finish. Yes a “BGR” wood stock would probably be. It’s an earlier iteration. 84L or 84M would be latest generation rifles. Later rifles may be matte. If I remember bgr are blued gloss. All of the rifles you have...
Kimber select grades will be available from time to time~2k. Usually have very nice wood. Win 70 Supergrades about same $. CRF a requirement? Ruger Africans great rifles if you can take the muzzle break
Before the hijack we were discussing downloading 458 to 45-70 performance to use for familiarization loads. Any last advice? Will be loading 2230 as it is available locally. Thanks to all who responded on this initially.
Pressure is not what ignites the powder charge. Primers serve that function. The powder volume AND the ignition flare from the primer, it’s volume and reach help to determine along with burn rate of the powder how quickly the powder burn reaches peak pressure and whether it is a burn or B a...
What I had utilized so far. Have been encouraged to utilize a different powder as case volume was only about 74% with h335. That charge was fine for a 45-70 but a touch light for a 458 with essentially the same case volume but need to keep safe. Thanks
Awesome! Thanks. Tried to download grt but antivirus went nuts. I don’t have tin star but do have trail boss. Yep the load density sure doesn’t add up with the quotes in the manuals. May have to source a can of 3031. I see a quick load in my future!! Thanks to JAD and all who chimed in!!
45-70 usage with these on whitetail haven’t shown grenading as you describe. Have been through a 1895 Ruger trapper. Shorter barrel but velocity was 1850+. Great penetration in and out both sides with obvious tracking fluid but unnecessary as trail might have been 40 feet! I’ll shoot a few and...
Thanks for the reply. Was attempting to duplicate a 45-70 loading with this bullet in a 458. With 335 nosler shows 67 gr~2300fps so that’s my top side. Case volume virtually identical. 458 case obviously more substantial. Not seeing any pressure signs but have only fired two for close...
Plinking and deer hunting. Midway had them at a B bargain. Neither Nosler nor Hodgdon have a comment. Case is so similar to 45-70 capacity and those loads are available. Just wondering Don’t currently have grt or quickload available. Mostly a light 458 deer load. Was thinking a 67gr load...
Any experimenters willing to touch on this one? Have a lot of H335, have been blessed with several boxes of this bullet. Would like to load a practice load with these components. Any advice?
