Newly Acquired Jeffery .333 Nitro Express

The heaviest load I shoot which is the 250g bullet is the lightest the 333 Jefferey shoots. According to the nosler reloading manual the best a 338-06 can do with a 250g bullet is about 2400FPS - the 333 beats it by 100fps, Impressive considering the age of the round.

Want To Buy More 7x57 ZKK, Mauser, Ruger

Thats what I did - picked up a JC Higgins model 50 ( FN Supreme action mauser ) and rebarreled it to 7X57 mauser. Put a set of remington sights on it and I am happy with the outcome.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

I don't normally shoot past three hundred yards. I find magnum provide the added horsepower when needed. Not all magnums are for long range. IMHO

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Makes a lot of sense. When all you have is a hammer everything else is a nail. If a 180 gr pill in a 30-06 isn't enough I will use a bigger or faster 30 cal magnum. The biggest thing have here in Oregon are elk. My 338-06 pushing 225g noslers or mu 300H&H pushing 180g noslers do just fine.

Why not go to a bigger cartridge if you need more energy.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

No the heaviest I have used is a 200g partition and went back to 180s.if I need larger I will go to a 338

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

What I don't get is the need to go outside normal bullet weights with a cartridge. The 30-06 is best in my opinion with. 150 to 180g bullets. They make bullets above and below this range. Instead of making a cartridge something it isn't use a larger or smaller cartridge. I have always believed...

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Trying to understand ballisticly how it is superior to other modern 7/8 magnum cartridges? You like it it works for you and old guns are cool these points we agree on. Superior ballistics, nope.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

So what kind of speeds are you getting with your 147g bullet with your 280NE and what pressures are you running at?

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the 280 Ross the samething as a 280NE? My understanding is that the 7mm Remington will out perform that cartridge. Given the 280 NE was ahead of its time.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

256 niender (sp?) would be s good one . I know the 6.5-06 exists but it's a wildcat. To me it is superior to the 270win and the 25-06

I would bet that long after I am dead and forgotten the 30-06 will still be going strong. Guess that would be hard to collect on.

What caliber would you bring back from the dead?

Bring back .411 bullets tougher than what is used for the 405 winchester. I am using the barnes lrx bullet but they are not rated for the velocity I am shooting them. So maybe the 404 B&J express which will never happen.

Vintage scope mounting - Remington 30 Express

I had a mint model 30 express chambered in 30-06 with the crescent button plate. That butt plate sure made that recoil sharp and I sold it to a collector. I thought it better to sell that rifle instead of messing the rifle up. Built a fn mauser in 264WM with the proceeds.

I grew up watching the Duke I guess he is the closest I have came to having a role model. I remember when he passed. Even as a young teenager I knew it was the end of an era. As far as his choice of a 300 weatherby. I am not a fan. I have four 300 magnums. In order of like comes my 300 H&H...

Why no love for the .358 Win?

I have a 35 whelen and a 358 norma magnum. Not sure what a 358 winchester would get me. If the 35 whelen is too much odds are I moving down to a 30-06 or a 308. Just don't see the purpose In my collecttion.

What cartridge is it chambered for?
  23. J

    1903 springfield

You have pros and cons to both. Two big advantages of the enfield action it is large enough for the round and the enfield action is stringer. Many cartridges that the enfield action has been chambered in I would not attempt in the springfield I have them both and hold both in high regard.

    1903 springfield

I think a 1917 or a 1914 would be better than the 1903 for a 375H&H length cartridge and they aren't that exspensive. I do realize we are talking about a 1903.

Excellent information. I think there are simpler conversions and better actions for a 375H&H. I love the 1903 action and have two. A 6.5x55 and a 257 roberts.i had one in 30-338wm and many in 30-06. I just wish I could get synthetic stocks for them.

I guess with enough money it's all possible but I would think converting a 1903 into a 375H&H doesn't make sense to me. A 375 whelen would work nicely...I think the 1903 / a3 is no longer being supported. They seem to be going out style which is sad to me.

Here in the states I see limited use for 40 cal magnums. I have thought about the 45-70 but don't much care for the rainbow trajectory. I find the 9.3s and 375s about the largest I could imagine using in North America

I have thought of doing this with my BSA model D 1917 enfield sporter. I am a bit worried about the shoulder on the 400 whelen hence I would probably go with the 375 whelen. Chainsaws and those who use them

When I bought my farm about ten years ago I bought a couple of Husqvarnas. A 440xe and 460 Rancher. I dont know if they are good saws but I have no complaints. I use the heck out of the 440 not so much the 460. Before that I used to run an old remington that was a decent saw for my purposes.

    9.3x62

I built my first whelen back in 1998 on a mauser. I do not consider the whelen the equivalent to the 9.3s. Most whelens are not shooting 300 plus slugs.
