Asked Barnes if the 170 LRX is adequate for use on Cape Buffalo. Below is their response:

" Over on the 24 Hour Campfire.com forum, RickBin, the owner has posted his “now” preference for the 270 gr LRX in his 375’s. He’s taken a multitude of Cape Buffalo with many 375 cal bullets. I’d have zero issues giving the go ahead for the 270 gr LRX in your Ruger for Cape Buffalo. Both the 270 and 300 gr TSX’s have an impeccable reputation for all the big game you intend to hunt. "

Based on this I've chosen it to be the bullet I will use for all of Africa hunting from plains game up to cape buffalo. A single load is a lot better and easier than worrying about changing Zero. It's also got good BC and penetrates well and holds together allowing further shots to be more accurate on PG and still adequate for DG.

Anyone have any load data? I have RL16, 4831SC, Varget, and IMR 4064. Trying to obtain around 2750-2800 with this bullet.

I’m planning to try that bullet in mine as well. Once I can acquire more brass I’m planning to start load development.

I would use whatever velocity I could safely get with Varget and not worry about a predetermined velocity target. I see know reason to pursue 2800 fps.
I like the idea of of the 270 TSX or LRX for everything. I hope you report back.

From loaddata.com. It is a paid subscription site, $35 a year,if I remember correctly. Has data on calibers I cant find any where else.

Barnes recommends jumping them to the lands. I have found that this can make a considerable difference in group size.

I am quoting a post from Pilar, who uses 81gras of 4350 in a 375 with a 270gr barnes

When loading a Barnes TSX, Tipped TSX or LRX bullet, your rifle may prefer a bullet jump of anywhere between .050” up to .250” or more. This distance off the lands (rifling), aka “jump” may be limited to the rifles throat length, magazine length and bullet length.

When selecting the cartridge overall length (COAL) we recommend starting with a minimum “jump” of .050” off the lands. This is the point where your load development should begin. You can then later test different seating depths and find a “sweet spot” that your particular firearm prefers. We suggest working in at least .025” increments as follows seating the bullet deeper to allow a further jump. Your test plan could look something like this:

1st group- .050” jump
2nd group- .075” jump
3rd group- .100” jump
4th group- .125” jump
5th group- .150“ jump
6th group- * see below

Search for a post titled "Powder for 375 Ruger 270 Barnes LRX". Good info in there

Your list of preferred powders seems reasonable starting low and working up to check pressure ( as every gun has its own “ finger print “ ) I do 4350 because my 270win and 375 like it as does my hunting/ reload buddy in his 270 WSM & H&H , good luck with whichever powders you choose (H4350 is usually more accurate. R-16 gets you more speed. I'll take the accuracy with H4350 which is readily available over Alliant powders.)

The reason is kind of silly but the CDS dial on my scope is for a 185TTSX at 2810 fps. The 270 LRX has a similar BC to this bullet so if I get the velocity close (and accuracy is acceptable ~1 MOA) I'd be very happy as I wouldn't need to buy another $80 dial and wait time. Of course if the load is too hot or not accurate I won't fight it and just buy a new dial or know to add like 10-20 yards when dialing. I'll get some load data hopefully by early May and will post my results for everyone as there isn't a ton of info out there on this bullet. Only a youtube video I found. I will play with powder type a bit and also seating depth. I have a Hornady modified case so can measure to the lands. Hoping the 22" barrel gets me at least to 2750 with this bullet so the dial is "close enough". Realistically I don't see myself shooting this rifle further than about 350 and that would be at a hog on my property. For really far stuff I have a 27" 300 Norma Mag. I bought this Ruger Hawkeye FTW for my first trip to Africa in Limpopo in August. I couldn't be more excited.

Maybe you could load the 250 ttsx for using the CDS you have. It has a good BC too. This would be great for hogs, deer, and all African antelope.
You really only benefit from the 270 or 300 on buffalo.

If you really want the 270 LRX for everything then get a new CDS after you find your favorite load and source a good supply of components.

I am loading 270 grain and 300 grain Barnes with H414.
Out of my 375 Ruger African I am getting 2550 fps, which is what the Hornady DGX 300 grain load clocked at. I still have plenty of room to go up in velocity if I need to.
I also loaded some Sierra 270 grain with the H414 these where light loads about a grain or two below the minimum. Easy shooting and accurate.

I somehow overlooked that you were shooting 375 Ruger rather than 375 H&H.
I'm sure Varget works in the Ruger but probably not well as in the H&H. I have no experience loading for the 375 Ruger - I suspect it benefits from a slightly slower powder.

If I were starting that load workup at home, I would likely start with RL15 and then quickly move to Varget or 4350 if I wasn't getting something going pretty fast. If your listed powders were my only choices, I would probably just start with Varget and run it up to the upper end and then stop when I found something accurate. And accurate in this case is anything an 1" or better.
