I had a 300Wby Ultralite. Got a steal price on a sealed factory box, Proof Research Carbon Fiber 1:9 twist barrel last Christmas (someone needed money). Gunsmith finally had time to do the rebarrel. Bonus, gunsmith has a short throat reamer, can still fire factory ammo but not the .3 jump to rifling. Had it threaded for my silencer. While I'm waiting for my stocker to work my deluxe grade English Walnut stock, I decided to open the barrel channel on the factory fiberglass stock. The fiberglass stock has a half fill aluminum chassis and is pillar bedded. I took a piece of bar stock and wrapped it with drywall sandpaper. Took about 1,000 crunches but got the barrel floated. It is off slightly more open on one side but not horribly ugly. Finished off by mounting a 3-15×56 4Ai Minox (part of Blaser Optics). Weight is closer to an Accumark setup now, certainly not light. Taking it to the range tomorrow.
