In about 1967 if i remember correctly i was in the Army pre Vietnam, i knew a gunsmith in Sydney Australia. He had a 303 British double rifle in his display cabinet, i can not remember the make but often think it may have been a Westley Richards . Do any of you double rifle fans know who made them in 303? it was his fathers who used it in India in the 1950s.

Most British makers did. I have seen .303 doubles by Dan’l Fraser, Westey Richards, Holland, Rigby (a rising bite) and Webley.

There is a Daniel Fraser double rifle in 303 British currently on auction with Holts:

A good looking one too!

I know of a Bland .303 Brit Double that might be up for sale soon, I just hope I have some funds when does come up !

There is a WR 303 at Hallowell and Co right now waiting on your Credit Card info to ship to your favorite FFL!

Purdey made a few 303 doubles for deer stalking . I have one made in 1898 . A Jones underlever snap action non ejector with 25.5 inch barrels . Taking it out to knock over some Axis deer near Brisbane in early October . Shoots beautifully .

I don't think that DR caliber 303 British was rare, meaning sure in the British area. The cartridge with its rim is without modifications very well suitable for a DR. Many German cartridges had a rimmed version so that they could be used for various break-down weapons. In our regions the cartridge 303 British would but be in competition with above all, the cartridge 8x57IRS.

It’s worth repeating that, if any maker would offer a plain grade side by side rifle, caliber .303 British, in the pre-war profile (splinter forearm, 25” barrels, Prince of Wales semi-pistol grip, etc., etc.), for $10,000.us to $15,000.us dollars, depending on grade of wood, ejectors vs extractors, etc., I predict they would not be able to build them fast enough for the first couple of years.
The back order numbers / waiting list would be staggering for awhile.
