Will soon have a Remington Model 673 so chambered. Why? Well, for something completely different! Never had one and was looking for something new to fool around with and load for.
The 673 is based on the Model 7 action, with 22" steel ribbed barrel, iron sights, and laminated wood stock. A lot of those around are missing the rear sight because it interferes with longer scopes.
I found one with a scope base and rear sight intact. Due to the short mag length, longer and heavier bullets can be an issue but I have quite a few 225 Sierra's to try in it and if I just have to shoot 250 gr bullets at something, I have a .35 Whelen.
The GB seller says he was having great accuracy with 200 gr Barnes Triple Shocks and TAC powder. The charge he told me sounded insane but the Barnes book says his load is under max. May have to give those a try.
In the meantime I have some TAC and already loaded some rounds, left them a bit long in case the mag box allows over 2.8". Its been around since '65 and is basically the original short magnum.
Biggest problem is the scarcity of affordable Remington brass, though Nosler makes it now also, just expensive. Should be interesting...will post a pic when I get it.

Go for it! Nothing like a new project. I shot one ONCE. All I can say is it kills on one end and maims on the other. :A Stars::D

Shouldn't be any worse than anything else in its class, like the Whelen, one is as powerful as the other. Probably was one of the earlier 600 models I bet. This 673 comes factory with a nice thick pad.

Yes, it was a 660, dogleg bolt handle.

Great gun Scott! I have a 673 in the 6.5 RM and a 600 in the 350. I will shoot a moose with that 350 one of these days. I pounded a cow elk with it the year I bought it and haven’t shot it since. Glad you posted this, I’m going to drag it out and play with it.

My nephew had one made up on the model 7 action, with a super premium barrel, new synthetic stock, etc. It will shoot 1/4 inch groups at 100 yds. I shot a buck with it and it performed well. Didn't notice any unusual amount off recoil, but never really do when shooting at game. Kind of tough to get brass for, but there is always the 338 mag to expand upward.

I have read of guys using 7 mag brass too. It wont be necessary though, there is enough brass floating around to not have to become a manufacturer.

I made some 6.5 out of 7 Mag and then made a score on new 6.5 brass a month later. Lol. Got enough of both to last me and my kids lifetimes now! He who dies with the most brass and bullets win! Lol

Before I snagged this .350, I was all over the place looking for brass! I mean all over the place! Found a gun store in Great Britain that had some of the Rem brass, LOLo_Oo_O. They offered it to me for a reasonable price, but with shipping it wasn't a bargain so passed on it. :(Gunbroker has a fair amount of brass and ammo, but those guys are working hard to scare buyers off with their opening bid prices!:eek::rolleyes:

I went into a reloading store up in Wyoming and they had 10 100 piece bags several years ago and I snagged all of it! Felt like I had robbed a bank!

Of .350 Rem??o_Oo_Oo_O Got any left??:whistle::whistle::whistle::whistle::D:D:D

I'm not familiar with this caliber. What does it offer over a 35 Whelen pushing a 225 Gr. Barnes TTSX at 2730 FPS?

Short action is one difference.

Short action is one difference.
And Jeff Cooper used it on his "Super Scout" or "Lion Scout" rifles. He got at least Kudu and Moose with the caliber. Not sure if he used it on Lion.

In reality they are two peas in a pod, one is shorter and fatter, the other taller. The 350 mag has the slightest bit more capacity, but in reality they are ballistic twins, what one will do so will the other, especially when it comes to hand loads. The Mag is at a disadvantage often with the short length magazine box and bullets must be deep seated making using the 250's doable, but they have to be seated so deep that capacity is lost, so the Whelen is better for heavy bullets. But again in most cases, no difference.

I just had a look at QuickLoad Like you said sestoppleman they are pretty much ballistic twins. I saw no performance advantage over my 35 Whelen loads using a 225 Gr. bullet. But what the heck, If a guy wants a new rifle he should go for it. Lord knows I've been guilty of that a time or two.

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
