350gr Barnes TSX

Hi everyone. I'm currently developing a load for my 458 lott using the Barnes TSX in 350gr. Since I live in Sweden the powder that I will find most frequently is Normas powders.
But I don't really know where to start. Today I did some loading using Normas 200 powder. Start weight is 75gr and so far I have loaded up to 77gr. I have tested them yet but is these load to hot or do you guys think I'm on the right path?
I was looking in Normas reloading manual on other 350gr bullets for 458 win mag and used the max load for a start load.

Interesting that Barnes doesn't show any load data for 350gr?
You might email them for info. They responded to an email I sent within a day.

What is the thought process behind loading a 350 grain bullet for a rifle intended to fire 500 grain bullets?

I shoot the 350gr TSX in my 416 Rem Mag. Just a great flat-shooting bullet (for a 416), with reduced recoil, and still hits with well over 4,000 ft/lbs of energy at 100 yards. It retains about 100% of its weight, so you can get away with a size down in weight and get the same performance.

I load the 450gr TSX for 458 win mag, and that is a fantastic bullet for that caliber. If you want to step down as low as a 350gr bullet, you might as well do it in the 416 caliber rather than the 458.

I to have a .458Lott but have yet to hand load for it. I do hand load for a lot of other calibers and use a computer program to help me determine loads and ballistics and have had good luck with it. I think you are good where you're at and I think 78-79 gr's is MAX. From what I can see is any gain in speed from the 78-79gr charge weights is only a gain in 25yds distance. All of this is predicated on a few variables. What is your C.O.A.L., your barrel length and velocity?

Well, here where I live, in Sweden. Unfortunately we have a limit on how many firearms we are allowed to own, the magical number is 6 and that includes both rifles and shotguns. My thought was to try with 350gr ones just to maybe make the 458 a little bit more all round. My plan was to use the 350gr TSX for when I'm hunting smaller game from a stand when the shooting distance can be up to or around 150 meters. Then use a 480-500gr bullet when I'm hunting with my dog or when distances are almost certain under 100meters like in heavy wooden areas.

I like to experiment and with the 458 there is no exception. For practice I use Hornadys 500gr Inter-loc but for hunting I think I will try A-Frame or maybe Woodleigh welcore.

My understanding is that there is a fairly close relationship between speed and pressure. There is load data for it in the Barnes #3 manual and the powders listed get it going about 2500-2600 ish.

The Lott is actually quite versatile if one is willing to roll their own.

By the way, I've got 350 grain loads for the Lott, from Barnes, back at home. I'll send it your way when back in town (which will be Sunday/Monday).
