350gr ttsx in 416

What's everyones thoughts on these bullets in 416? Any cool stories?

Ive only shot paper with them so far...

but my 416 Taylor loves them...

Feeds them perfectly.. and I get consistent MOA or better sized groups out of them..

I only load 350 gr TTSX, 350 gr TSX, and 360gr Barnes Banded Solids in my 416 right now..

I have shot the 300's in my 416 rem, no game taken, but they shoot very well.

I cant speak for the 350gr but I use the 300gr TSX in my 416 RM and would highly recommend it! They group around 1 MOA at 2700fps from my Win M70. Only downside is they do leave a fair bit of copper fouling in my barrel but the trade off is they are an absolute hammer on game!

I've taken animals from around 25-150 yards away and would feel comfortable out to around 200. So far ive taken a handful of PG in Africa and handful of large game in the USA but wouldnt hesitate to use this load on buffalo or any similar sized animal. The 300gr TSX has passed completely through every animal ive ever shot except a blue wildebeest i shot at around 50 yards square in the chest and that was almost a pass through as well.

I still have the expanded 300gr bullet.

I think they are the epitome of Barnes re-thinking of the expanding bullet! I would be willing to bet that anything that you used to need a 400 grain bullet in a .416 for, can now be done with the 350 TTSX. I only use TTSX bullets anyway, not the TSX, as they have a lower threshold for expansion and expand more reliably IMO.

I have never shot them in my .416 Ruger when I had it, but I used the 340 grain woodleigh weldcore PP with which I knocked the stuffin' out of a smaller black bear. I used them in my .375 H&H, and now .375 Ruger and it is my go to bullet for my 6.5x55. It has killed a few deer out of the 6.5 and it has always performed flawlessly.

The Barnes bullets penetrate well beyond what their weight would indicate they should. So I think the 350 TTSX will make a .416 shoot as flat as a .375 with 300 grain bullets (or a .30-06 with 180s) and hit really hard, making them versatile from in close or out at distance. I would say that at 2,600-2,700 fps, you would turn a .416 into a 300 yard gun.

No. I generally prefer the TTSX over TSX.. although I have no data or evidence that one is really any more or less effective than the other in .416 caliber bullets accuracy or performance-wise (or anything else)..

With all of my big bores, I generally buy bullets when I see a good deal on them as opposed to when I "need" them.. and just buy more than I know I'll need for a while as an insurance policy against ever running out of stock.. because bullets are so expensive for them otherwise..

At either the 2017 or 2018 DSC (I cant remember which) Barnes was offering an outstanding show special on most of their bullets on the last day of the show (I think 40% off MSRP? I cant remember exactly).. so I bought a bunch of TSX then (they were out of TTSX in most of the calibers I wanted to purchase).. I walked out with several hundred projectiles though ranging from 243 - 416

And then I caught a midwayusa sale maybe a year or so ago where I picked up a hundred 416 TTSX.. I didnt really need them (still shooting through the DSC purchase).. but the price was right, so I grabbed them and a hundred of the banded solids at the same time..

Thanks for the offer, im gonna try some out and see how they shoot. I'm a little worried they may be too tough for deer though.

The mag tips are definitely not too tough for deer. I fired a number of them over the years out of the .416 because they are the cheapest bullet for that caliber. They reliably and rapidly expand and/or over expand if you push them too hard. They are so soft that it took 3 more grains of powder for me to get them to the same speed as the 340 woodleigh weldcore. The weldcore worked great on black bear for me. So the speer I would say they will knock a deer into oblivion with some authority! Use 'em!

Alternative powders, I’ve used Varget and Alliant MR2000 with great results with 350’s in my Ruger.

Alliant 2000MR was my go-to for the .416 ruger as it consistently produced the highest velocities with both the 400s and the 340-350s. I now use it for the other end of the spectrum. It it also works really well in .223 for my cz527.

Got some loaded up to try out tm to try to find the max powder charge. Had to load to 3.360" COAL to feed through the magazine. Was hoping they would go longer, so my upper charges are pretty compressed. If all goes well I'll find a good node on powder charge and do some seating depth test Monday or Tuesday.
