For sale is a beautiful Steyr Mannlicher Model S in 375 H&H. Attached is a 1.5x5 Power Leupold Vari-X III. Rifle is in 95% condition with small handling marks on the stock. Bore is excellent. Trigger is set at 3#. Barrel is 25" long. Rifle is really a shooter. I have attached 3 targets showing 3 different handloads and bullets that shoot under 1" groups at 100 yards. Rifle comes with 2 magazines. However, 1 is labeled as 375 H&H but the second is labeled 8x68S which is the exact same magazine as the 375 except for the labeling and functions flawlessly with 375 H&H ammo. Price is $2395 without scope or $2695 with scope. This rifle is listed elsewhere. Will ship with a hard case. Payment will be by USPS postal money order and must ship to a FFL.

Bump for a nice .375!

I have exactly the same rifle .lover her to bits .shoots just as accurately

Though it says Mod S on the bbl, I believe Steyr-Mannlicher referred to it as the Model S/T (for tropical, including the spare rotary mag in the stock.) Bought one from a PH as my first 375 as he let me use it on an early Safari (he resides in the US for 1/2 the year,) re-blued, refinished, (talked to an injection mold co. about re-doing the plastics,) developed handloads. I've never experienced a "slicker" action in any gun. Eventually sold it to yet another former Zim resident in America (I checked to see if yours was mine, but it's def not. Yours is the 1st other I've ever seen in the US!) Check out what I have to say w/ respect to S/T, as it's a more desirable model. Kevin Robertson approves as unlike a lot of factory US sporters, this gun was made of proper proportion and weight (and as a result is as pleasant to shoot as a 30-06.) That cold rolled steel bbl will place bullets in or near the same hole, shot after shot, using proper handloads. Mine seemed to like the Barnes 270s and 350s at 2660 and 2350ish fps. RL 15 or 19 (I forget as only my son has a 375 now.)

Yes, you are 100% right, it is an S/T. No question about that :)

For those not familiar with Steyr hunting rifles, but familiar with military rifles, it is essentially a SSG69 with a .375 H&H barrel. No faint praise...

I never owned an S/T but I own a SSG69 PII (long, bull barrel), as well as a Luxus 7x64, and a Luxus .270 Win Stutzen. Great rifles.

I have long hesitated getting a .375 H&H (and the desire is still there), but I was first on the magnum Mauser CRF bandwagon, then Blaser R8 bandwagon, so it did not happen...

The only thing to check on these rifles is the action screw recesses in the plastic bottom. Originally, the plastic bottom was 100% Macrolon polycarbonate and a number of folks cracked the screw recesses by over torqueing the front action screw, and occasionally the rear one. I did... Ultimately Steyr produced for the medium length M action SSG 69 a new bottom with steel inserts for the front and rear screw recesses. It solved the problem. I do not know if Steyr did it for the long action, but I believe that Styria Arms offers one.

"Styria Inlay System (in the stock and trigger guard) for SL, S, M, L and SSG 69 models, ensures constant screw tension and prevents cracks caused by recoil loading. This achieves much more constant groups of shots (the point of impact does not wander by up to 20 cm when the barrel is warmed up at 300 m). Included is a new trigger guard with cast-in steel washers and new, customized Allen system screws"

I found on the net an example of what I was discussing above

Click on the pic twice to zoom up and see at 6 o'clock the crack below the front action screw. On my SSG 69 the crack was at 3 o'clock. This is where it happens most of the times as this is where the material is thinnest.

My understanding is that when replacing the bottom with one with steel inserts, folks generally also glass bed pillars for the front and rear action screws as the stock has a reputation for being a little weak in this area

I would automatically do these two things (new steel insert bottom + glass bedded pillars) if I purchased on of these. Now I need to leave this thread or I might :E Rofl:

That's crazy good accuracy, from a 375 mag!

Impressive

Thank you for the kind comments and additional information on my rifle. She is a beauty and is a shooter! 3 different handloads under moa, one under half moa. Weight with scope is 9# 13 oz.

Looking at some old photos, now I recall just why the actions are so "slick" on the Steyr. The bolt lugs are just forward of the handle (it locks up in the rear of the receiver with max leverage via the adjacent handle, so it's just round bolt forward of that.) Other photo after the rifle was restored back in the states.
