375 zero distance

Since I'm new to all this I thought I'd ask to be sure.
I'm assuming a 100 yard zero for the 375 based on planned usage but 200 is what I've used all my life for smaller calibers.
Decided to verify with the experts here

Mine is at 100 yards, but when I arrived I had to sight in at 100 meters. 9+ yards difference.

I think you were right the first time. 1.5 - 2 inches high at 100 (essentially a 175 - 200 meter zero). Won't matter on a buffalo at 100 feet (or 30.48 meters) and buys you a bit more point blank range for that kudu on the next ridge or uncooperative zebra. Only exception is if hunting leopard or really tiny guys like Suni.

How about just plugging your height above bore, muzzle velocity and BC in for a 4" vital? I just do a 25 yd zero and it goes a max of 2" north and somewhere around 200 it's 2" south. Works for me and I know that at a range where very precise shooting starts to matter, it's dead on.
You can always set up a distance scope for reaching out, but it appears that large African game are expensive to wound so shots are kept close.

To be honest I haven't even looked at the ballistics yet. But I doubt id want to shoot this rifle more than 300 yards.
I hope one day to go after buffalo but for now thinking about plains game.
Was planning to take my 300 but now that the 375 is nearly in my hands I'm rethinking

I like a 150 yd zero which depending on the bullets BC and velocity will in a .375, be just a tad over 1" high at 100, and only a couple inches low at 200 depending on other factors.

I'd look at a ballistic program and see what the +and- were with a 150 and 200 yard zero.

On my hint I had 2 animals that the shots were pushing 400 yards with no way to get closer and still see the animal.

The 375 should work at those ranges but I believe that the 300 would work better

It works , I have already make such shots on deers with a rifle caliber 9.3x64. However , uncertainty remains and there are certainly better cartridges for this.

IMO would depend on bullet you are using and terrain/cover of area you will be hunting.Animal to be hunted another factor.
I use 260 Nosler part.in my 375 with 300 part as backup or if needed.
I zero 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 high at 100 yds and go from there.

We've Zeroed our .357 Ruger Hawkeye Guide Gun at 200 yards point blank range with 300 gr. Swift A-Frames & Nosher Accubonds
Dead on from 75 to 300 yards

Not sure what bullets I'll be hunting with.
I'll be trying several and see how things play out.
I may hunt with it here at home in Colorado this year to get a better feel for it also.

with 300 gn not round nose bullets, +3 at 100 comes dead on at about 200, and -3 at about 250, and -12 at about 300.
this is a useful max point blank zero for many situations.

If I were taking 400 yard shots I'd switch to a match grade solid with high BC. I save almost 1000 ft/lbs at 400 yards over a hot pushed accubond. At some point the SD has to give way to BC and getting there.

when you start shooting those distances with a 375, you need to be able to wind your scope for wind and elevation, and know the range accurately if not relying on luck.
you also need a seriously good rest, probably too low in bushes.
the bullets you need require a faster twist than usual, and may not have ideal terminal ballistics.
lets get real about hunting.

@bruce moulds i agree! A .375 to 400 yards is quite a long shot. That same shot with a 7 mag from prone off a bipod is not so bad.
I don’t think I would risk the cost of a trigger pull African animal with a .375 at 400 yards. But I haven’t practiced with that caliber for that distance. It is more fun to get closer.

I agree limiting this rifle to 300 yards, most likely less.
My 300win is set up for the longer range hunting.
I haven't made my scope choice yet either.
I've seen some good deals on 1x4 scopes but I have a nightforce 2x10 if I can talk my dad into letting me steal it off of his rifle that he doesn't hunt with anymore.

I got my 375 Ruger for the CB dream but want to use it in the states for Elk so I have it zeroed in at 200. It is 8 inches down at 300 so it should work great for the Elk.
When I switched from a 100 zero this was the first day at the range.

the four in the middle bottom right was the first one then moved it up and over for the other three. I have a 1.5-5 scope on it so a little disadvantage at 200 yards the cross hairs cover the whole center of the target. The other targets are my 204 Ruger

I sighted in my Win 70 375HH at FTW Ranch with Barnes 235g TSX and 63g of 4064 for a 200 yd zero. It gives me 1.75 in. high at 100, 3 in. low at 250 and 6 in. low at 275 yards. 9 in. low at 300. For me, 250 is about as far as I want to shoot off sticks for pg without a lot of figuring elevation. I have taken two springbok at 250 but not as a rule.
