Hey guys. I'm looking into a 460 weatherby. A buddy of mine has one and he is making me A pretty good deal on it. I have a 458 Lott right now but it is a CZ and I'm having feeding issues with it, it's at the Smith nut you know how it is. Anyway I have a plethora of 458 bullets both 350gr and an assortment of 500gr and a good supply of powder. H4350, CFE233, Varget, H322, RL 16 and probably some others too. I'm just wanting to get some ideas on where to start and what might be some go to loads that you all use. It doesn't have to be a barn burner. I think that's the beauty of the 460. I can run it at an idle alost and still get 458 Lott velocity and I can turn her up if I want to. I suspect it will toss a 350gr bullet pretty swiftly too. I'm gonna hunt Buffalo and tuskless elephant and maybe a Kudu if I get a chance after the big stuff. Let me know what y'all got. Thanks guys.

I would like to but it's been at the Smith for about 6 months now and they are having to weld a piece inside the action to help guide the round. I'm gonna get it fixed but I'm also going to get this 460. What's the deal with the 460 other than obviously the extra recoil and only 2rd down in the box instead of the extra ammo that the 458 holds

Get another smith...460 is crap especially on a Weatherby action...

There as been some feeding issues in certain bullet makes in the CZ550, this we see at our range on BASA. I would look into that first I can bet you stock standard CZ 550 will not struggle to feed the following if your magazine plate is correct as it should be and your spring is strong enough. Hornady DGS and DGX, Woodleigh all of them Hydros, FMJ, Softs Round nose and Protected point.

What bullets is your rifle not feeding factory or reloads?

There is one South African brand that I will not mention that has shown feeding issues in the 550.

But otherwise any competetent gunsmith can sort out feeding in a short time on a CZ. I would rather hunt with 5 rounds down in the mag than 2 for dangerous game. Tuskless being one of those that usually involve some confrontation.

It jams when the bullet feeds off the left side off the stack with almost any bullet. I have ran all the above and had hiccups. The round kicks too far to the right and hits the spot that the extractor goes into.

Have you tried a new magazine plate and spring?

It's at the gunsmith now. Where would I aquire another floor plate and spring. The local Gunsmith is wanting to weld a piece onto the inside of the action to help angle the bullet correctly

Contact CZ USA just think that would be a cheaper a quicker way to get you sorted.

I'll give that a shot, didn't really think about that but I suspect that is probably the way to go.

In the past, Wayne at AHR was the go to guy for CZ-550 work. Wayne is phasing out and has handed over the work to another GS. You might check with him. See thread linked below. Your 458 Lott gives you all you need and with the option of using 458 WM, you will usually find ammo, certainly more readily than the 460 Weatherby.

Thanks 375 Ruger Fan.

I'm in the middle of a move, but can pull up some info I have in a couple weeks. There are a few guys on 24hcf whom have posted some good load data though. Should be able to search and find that info quickly on a search.

I recently picked up a 460 wby. Hannibal. Shooting mostly factory loads until my bench is back together and more powder acquired, but I have been extremely impressed with the cartridge. My rifle weighs in at 10.5#, and no muzzle brake.

Recoil is not what we've all read about and is very manageable, at least in my rifle with its stock design and fitment. I'm using some newer factory loads right now which are not loaded as hot as the older factory loads. Like you stated, the ability to load across a wide range of velocities and projectiles gives the 460 a lot of flexibility. Mine holds 3 down and 1 up, so no capacity issue claim to worry about.

I've had great experiences with the 460 wby thus far and while I cant speak to the Mark V variants, I'm planning to taking my Hannibal over next year. Personally, would never shoot one near a soul with a brake on though.
