I’m thinking of making some dummy round for my 500 double. I want to practice reloading from my belt. I can make dummy rounds but I’ve read that can mess up the links on the rifle. Any experience or suggestions on this matter? Thanks
What are the "links" of a rifle, a double rifle I presume?I’ve read that can mess up the links on the rifle.

There are a few threads on dummy (inert) cartridges.
I make and use dummy rounds for all my rifles.
1. I use brass in which the primer pockets have loosened up. One may use new brass if they desire...
2. For safety, I drill four holes just above the belt or head of the case. This way I know without a doubt that the rounds I am loading are dummys.
3. For a proper mass simulant, I add BB's to the case that weigh a little more than the powder charge would. The dummy will rattle with the BB's. Just a little more safe for us anal gumpy guys. It's the unloaded guns that shoot people...
4. Crimp the bullet strong. For a double rifle this isn't as important as when dummys get chambered from a magazine time after time.
5. I fill the primer pockets with glue from a hot glue gun. This can be refreshed easily if the glue gets beat up.
