7x57 manufacturers

Gday all,

Looking for some suggestions on 7x57 manufacturers, I'm having a nightmare trying to pin some down. Preferably with open sights.

So far this is what I've got for the Aussie market:

Winchester discontinued it
Cz discontinued it
Schultz & larsen are up to a 12 month wait

So far I know that

Roessler do one in titan 6, just bot mad on alloy actions and the plastic around the magazine and trigger guard.

Heym sr21 do one too but read mixed things about them.


Anyone know of any other manufacturers to consider within this general price range?

I guess the other option is rebarrelling something.

Ruger M77 African .275 Rigby/7x57/7mm Mauser. Only 250 were made a year ago. They are now going for around $1600 U S, if you can find one. Are Ruger rifles normally imported into Australia?

Not particularly cheap, but a wonderful rifle, and I assume available across the Commonwealth..

Not particularly cheap, but a wonderful rifle, and I assume available across the Commonwealth..

Haha yes they are but I'm an average working man with a baby due next week so it would be a choice of that rifle or my wife!

I rang the Australian distributor of ruger and they don't nor have they imported one.

I'd be open to buying one in good condition from the state's, wouldn't have a clue what's involved with bringing it in though.

JP, if you can afford a Rigby, this is the way to go! Not to mention Red Leg's comment about the Commonwealth, there may already be some of these in Australia looking for a home!!!

I wish they made that Highland with a cheek piece, but they don't and they will not custom make a stock with one either.

I currently have a Ruger no1 in 7x57 on it's way. It was made in 2008. Not sure when the last run they did was, but it's a fine rifle and caliber, if you can find one. This one is new in the box. It's a replacement of one I sold years ago (and always regretted)...

A dealer friend of mine ordered a Ruger No1 in 275Rigby a year or two ago. I haven't heard if he got it. As noted above, I think they are made in limited runs and may not be available to the overseas market. The problem with the 7x57 from standard manufacturers is that they more often choose the 7-08 for that market sector. Tikkas are generally available in NZ- do they ever have the 7x57 listed?

They tried pretty hard to stay with the basic Corbett rifle i.e no cheekpiece or ebony forend. Drop at heel is less to accommodate scopes and the barrel a tad beefier. I find it not an issue.

Would a sporterized Spanish small ring Mauser be an option in Oz?

Most I’ve seen that were left in the original 7x57 still wear the military stepped barrel (a bit ugly, but functional).. and have reasonable open sights...

And can be had dirt cheap here in the US..

Something like this is what I was talking about...

Uglier than a set of dirty goat balls.. but.. meets the requirements (7x57 bolt action with iron sights).. and over time, with a little money invested can end up a very nice rifle... (I've got a custom that started life as an old 93' small ring spanish mauser, that is extremely nice.. its actually one of the nicest rifles in my safe..but the only thing left on it that is original is the action.. everything else has been replaced)..

In your case, drop a $55 Timney Sportsman trigger in there.. and assuming the bore on that rifle is in reasonable shape, you'd probably have a decent, extremely low cost rifle.. that does everything youre currently asking for..

That might be the most beautiful .275 Rigby / 7x57 I have ever seen...

While I love my little 7x57 custom.. that Rigby is beyond a shadow of a doubt, best of show...

I've got a little rifle envy going on this morning..

And the possibilities are endless from there! Go ahead and get you a nice piece of walnut from Boyd’s custom built to your LOP, put a barrel on it made in this century, reblue or cerakote the whole thing....man here I am building my own rifle in someone else’s thread!
