you are just living up to your name of bluey (that was our nickname for em) with the questions. Im sure chital and rusa can live in the same environment. I am no deer expert, but im sure rusa browse and graze like sambar, and chital graze more like fallow, so competition would be limited. they do both like thick rocky shit country though and river and creek courses are popular bedding area's for both. the rusa wont be going off for another 4-6 weeks or so at a guess but the timing can vary weather depending, and given how dry it is in most areas that hold them your guess is a good as mine. In regards to them being called in, again I don't know, but they will respond to calls so you can locate them easier, like reds I suppose is a good analogy. They don't roar at them in Caledonia cause of the large numbers, just listen for em and walk em up. don't take this as gospel, there are many more experienced rusa hunters on the aussie bowhunting forums that know them like their pet dogs. Its just from my limited exposure to them.
Watervalley is a great place to see deer, as there is all 5 species in 2 paddocks totalling around 100,000 acres or so. The elk are in a separate pen, and they were heavily mixed with red genetics the last time I saw them. PM me if you want more info.
