Which book would you buy if you had the chance: James Mellon's African Hunter published in 1975 or the 2004 updated African Hunter II by Craig Boddington and Peter Flack?

I see the later at auction right now but Amazon seems to have both.

I have African Hunter and it’s both amazing and a serious Safari Classic! I haven’t seen the Boddington one but I’m sure he did a good job with it too…
If it were me and you don’t have African Hunter I’d start with it, but that’s me

The original. You can see what was. 2004 is outdated but not all that much different than today. I haven’t opened my copies in a long time. I think I will now.

I have and have read both. Interesting for sure. Mellon's book is a classic and depicts hunts in the 1960's and 1970's. The stories are good but the info is long out of date.

Boddington and Flack's book is updated to some extent but again, it was written several years ago and is very good. Peter Flack is an excellent writer and researcher. The book is helpful and is up to date when it was written.
There needs to be an African Hunter III to catch up to this time period.

I have both. got AH II first, then got AH I. I wished I had not waited so long to get AH I. To me it is a wholly different type of book - a classic.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
