Barnes flat base round nose 250 gr 308 bullets

I picked up a box of Hornady 250gr RN with a bunch of other normal weights; they're huge! It's also next to impossible to find load data for the 250gr pill. Hoping to figure out a load for the 300WM that works.
Does that box say what the velocity is supposed to be?

Barnes reloading manual #1 has load data in it.

Unfortunately no. It does carry a warning to "use in bolt action rifles only" on the box. They were loaded and sold by circle B ammunition.

The data that @krish sites is included in the 28 loads that LoadData dot com provides for the:
  • 300 Winchester Magnum with
  • 250 Grain Bullet
Within those 28 loads there are at least six different powders that will produce over 2500 fps with the 250 grain bullet. At a hair over 2500 fps, a 250 grain bullet leaves the muzzle with 3500 foot pounds of energy. That's 4700 joules for our European members. The data provided max out at 2560 fps and t 3639 foot pounds (4933 joules) of energy. That's pretty impressive!

Thirty bucks a year to the aforementioned website will provide an almost never ending source for load data... If only it would provide loads for my 450 Rigby. But then my Woodleigh manual provides data for that hammer!

Note: There are also 16 loads for the 300WM/250gr listed in:
Africa Medium Game Cartridges by Pierre van der Walt, $85 at Safari Press
https://www.worldwidehuntingbooks.c...p-van-der-walt/african-medium-game-cartridges

I have no financial or other connection to the listed websites or loading manuals.

I have Africa Medium Game Cartridges, but had not looked in there yet. Thanks!

This is what they look like. You talk about long for caliber. I would wager it will penetrate very deep and be difficult to recover one.

I picked up a box of NOS 30-06 loaded with 250 grain round nose Barnes bullets. I had never seen a 250 grain 308 bullet in my life. I always thought 220 grain were the heaviest made.? Can’t wait to try them.
@MS 9x56
Woodleigh makes a nice 240gn RNSP for the 30-06.

When did Hornady make a 30 cal 250 gr bullet? Never heard of it. I have a box of those Barnes in the OP, but havent ever shot any.

Further to BoB Neilsen 35 Whelen's post, Woodleigh loads for the 300WM with their 240s give up to 2600 fps; a 1:10" twist is recommended.

I don't know when they made them. I'll take a pic of the box tomorrow. I'd never seen, or heard, of this weight in .308 before either.
