I have one of these fine double guns, however it currently equipped with iron sights . I see that there are several different models or styles of scope bases to choose from. Which base do you recommend and why? Does the type or model of scope influence which of the bases should be used?

Shootist,
Could we trouble you for a few pictures of your rifle? I've never seen the BRNO double.
Cheers,
Cody

Art I can't imagine you needing a scope for any rifle. That being said bring that thing to Kansas City and let's take it to the range. I'm going with your son Friday to pick up your new baby.

I took several photos with my phone but I'm having troubles posting them. However if you will go to a post titled "BRNO 12 GA & 7 X 65r Combination" submitted by Pheroze on April 14th of this year you can see what these guns look like.

I downloaded Windows 10 last Tuesday and can't figure out how to "post" an I-Cloud photo. Maybe I'll have to get one of my grandkids to help me.

Glad you can join the rest of us living on the foreskin of technology.

Posting pictures is easy, just drag and drop your images right into the post and they will upload automatically.

Based on good advice here is an attempt at posting a couple of photos of my BRNO Super.

That definitely needs a detachable scope

You asked what the best scope mounts are for a gun. I'll give you the best in order.

#1 - A german claw mount system. Installed price without scope. $3500.
#2 - A Holland and Holland Claw system. Installed price without scope. $3000.
#3 - Is not possible. Sidemount system like G&H and Recknagel. $1200.
#4 - EAW Pivot mounts. $700 installed plus optic.
#5 - Talley Mounts and Quick Release Rings. $450 installed plus optic.

Then come the rest, subject to the machinations of your local mid-tier gunsmith. Leupold removable rings and mounts fashioned for the gun. (will look terrible and hold zero maybe adequately) $350 installed perhaps? Warne QD rings and some sort of custom mounting arrangement for them at perhaps $300?

If there is any sort of mounting rail present on that gun that could somehow be found to work with any version or iteration of the Warne QD rings that would be your best frugal option. The QD rings from Warne cost $100 if they could be made to work.

One additional thing if you don't mind the word police commentary that follows? Generally speaking, the gun you have isn't called a "double" because it is not a double of any particular caliber or gauge. It's not a 12x12 and its not a 450 nitro X 450 nitro.

The Brits would call your gun "a cape gun" and the Americans would call your gun "a combination gun". A lovely and versatile weapon in my opinion.

Thanks rookhawk, a combination gun it is. I like that description much better. Except for the old Savage Survival gun i.e. 410 over a 22 LR or a 20 Ga. over a 22 Mag I don't ever recall seeing one.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
