Wife and I Spent a week at Colona Castle a couple of years ago. Extremely nice and reasonably priced. It’s probably 20 minute ride into downtown area though

Try to stay at the V&A Waterfront, your family will probably like it best. Cape Grace, Table Bay etc… If you want “colonial”, Mount Nelson is your best bet.
