Trophy fees are based on antler weight, not SCI scoring?

Is this a standard weight to charge in Romania? All places Ive been charge based on SCI scorable inches.

Help me understand.

In Europe we dont use SCI scoring, we use CIC method. In CIC scoring, weight is the main driver in the score and thus is the most common method of pricing animals across Europe. You will find though that most outfitters will be willing to do a 'package'. Hope this helps.

How difficult is it to bring rifles and ammo from the US to Romania? Is Bucharest the best airport to fly into?

Are these hunts generally spot and stalk or from high seat? What is opportunity rate at 10kg+ stags?

The procedure to bring gun and ammunition is very easy. First you need a paper that you own the gun ( any 4457 form is accepted), and any valid hunting license to prove that you are hunter with long guns.
Before your arrival we issue an hunting invitation where we mention gun, manufacture, serial number, caliber, ammunition. With this paper you can enter without problems. All must be done 10 days before your arrival.
Regarding the size of the trophies, we always try for the best. Every year our hunters are taking trophies over 10 kg. Because the variety of genes we can’t guarantee the weight.
In the following pictures we have stags over 10 kg.

These are awesome pictures. Something definitely on a bucket list of mine. Maybe I’m just stupid or an illiterate American. However, I can’t seem to figure out clear & concise pricing on the “size” of the animal. Sorry if I missed something.

I’ve done a few hunts in Europe now for a few different species. The pay by size isn’t as intimidating to me anymore like it once was. Tell the outfitter what you’re looking for when booking hunt and that will help them decide the area you’ll go to or trophies you’ll hunt. Then tell the guide during your hunt what you’re looking for. They should be able to get you inside a +/- range you can afford. If a hunter is looking for just representative nice trophies they’d probably get steered towards a fixed price area or maybe area where genetics are unlikely to exceed a certain size. If a hunter wants a big trophy this is the type offer they’d go for. An 11+ kg stag would be comparable to a 400 inch elk, not available everywhere. A 7 kg stag is a very nice representative animal maybe comparable to a 300 inch elk. A major difference between the two that a guide can identify. I believe the standard is weighing the skulls 24 hours after boiling clean. I have a hunt for fallow deer this October with HuntRomania. All communication was really clear and straightforward. If all goes well I’ll be booking this hunt for a big red stag next.

I went roebuck hunting with Marius in early July (last month) about an hour drive north of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. It was an amazing hunt and experience!! Not many people can say they hunted in Transylvania!! Marius is a great guy and the country is absolutely beautiful- my son came with me and we toured the lands and castles (Bran, Corvin and Peles) and went to Brasov after the hunt- incredible!! I highly recommend him and the experience! I too will be going back in the future- likely for stag and wild boar… PM me for further information

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
