I have a question for all you guy's with way more experience than me, can I fit a gas check to a cast projectile that does not have a gas check base? and if yes is it safe to do so?

Regards.
Chris

If you have access to lathe you can do it in a few short minutes...lathe turning down the bullet to get the gas check to fit , put it through the swage press and re-load..nothing to it...I had 404 Jeffery cast bullets without a gas check ring , I turned down the bullet like I explained above and has a nice shooting secession(y)...

Thanks Gert.
Unfortunately I do not have a lathe, looks like I may have to get a mould for gas check bases.

Depending on what you want to do with it velocity wise there is a gas check for plain base bulets that is very thin material but will stay on when run through the lubrisizer.

Chris, Von Gruff is an expert on cast bullets, he will get you to go about correctly using cast bullets...you can take his advice to heart...(y)(y)(y) He taught me a lot about cast bullets for the 404 Jeffery ....not an easy task to get gas checks for the .423 " bore...

Thanks Guys,
I will explore the options you have suggested.

Thank you Von Gruff, excellent information.

Hi Chris,

You may try to see if these guys will sell overseas. They have a set of dies that allow you to make Plain base gas checks and also GC bullet gas checks. They make them by caliber and you can then just make your own. A lot of people just use aluminum soda cans but you can use copper sheet metal if you want.

I see VonGruff already mentioned them but I didn't see a link.

HI all, here is a Short update on our America trip, I currently in Houston and have 2 more meetings here before movings North toward Oklahoma, Missouri and Iowa, and from there I will head to Colorado and Idaho,I have been met with great hospitality and friendship, and have met several new and old clients and we are going to book the rest of 2025 season quick and have several dates booked for 2026!
That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
