A young man was making love to his young girlfriend when her father burst into the room.
"Get off my daughter he shouted!' and the young man jumped up.
How old are you?'the father demanded.
'I am 19 "the frighten young man replied.
"Do you know my daughter is only 16? " roared the father. The boy could only look at the floor. "I suppose you don't know I am the sheriff of this county either?"
the boy just shook his head "no" in terror.
The sheriff then gave the young man an ultimatum "you can do 20 years for sex with a minor or you can marry my daughter".
the boy agreed to marry the girl. Many years later the girl, now a woman heard her husband sobbing at the breakfast table. She came up to him and asked "Honey what is it? what's the matter?"
the man raised up his head and wiped his tears away and said "I would have got out today!"
