I work in this town so the story is closer to home. BUT the story could read-Humans build houses on wildlife winter range so the animals must find food somewhere or be killed. Same story anywhere in the world-humans occupy more and more, remove resources and wildlife suffers. This young female cougar killed the family ankle biter and got killed by the local police. Fish and game says thank goodness it wasn’t a small child—The public would be outraged if I had run this cat with hounds and killed it that way. . .

Sad for the cat! It's unfortunate, but this is the crazy world we live in now.

I will say I’m not on one side of a fence or another on this story because there is a lot to this that can’t be expressed in a news article or understood from across the state or across the world. It’s just something thought provoking, worth thinking about for a minute

Yup. Here in Idaho we get some doozy reactions to wildlife in the little posh developments of our-of-towners.

“lock up your dogs and cats, we saw a coyote!!! Should I call animal control?!?!??””

“are there supposed to be bats in Idaho!!?!?!””

“these things are all over my yard. What are they are how do I get rid of them?!!!! (A picture of a grasshopper attached)”

these are real comments made on a neighborhood app. We are growing some very weak people these days. And sadly, California is exporting a lot to otherwise wild (and red) states. The sprawl into the wild places really sucks.

My oldest sister lives in Arizona. She loves to tell me how they can’t let their cat outside or it will get eaten by hawks or coyotes. She hates when I ask her how much desert life her cat kills when she lets it out. I tell her it’s a fair fight, dog eat dog world out there. She hates that

and this is an excerpt from an article posted by Royal27 at the bottom of this page (scroll all the way down). Lots of opinions and rabbit holes you can chase on these topics

Sad and disappointing for the dog and the cat. IMO if you're going to move, know the area you are moving to. Protect your pets and be aware. Things like this could happen, if it does, don't blame the world, chalk it up and learn from it.

Sorry, it's a sore spot for me. I get tired of the whiners. People move out of the city "to the serenity" of farm country, then bitch about having to follow a tractor or combine for 30 seconds until they can pass. Or build a house downwind of a livestock operation that's been there for 70 years and complain about the smell.
It's crazy how many calls the poor local cops get from them for stupid stuff.

Know where you are moving to.
