Did A-square Ever Build A 6.5-‘06?

Yes they absolutely did. Art alphin was the one to standardize the 6.5-06 A-square. I once saw some Norma weatherby ammo for them so that's another avenue to check. The rifles he built in this size cartridge were based on a custom Winchester model 70 and were great shooters. I have two of his other calibers and they are amongst the most accurate guns ever owned. A lot of thought went into anything gunsmithing or ballistics he ever put his hands to. A great cartridge.

I had no idea. I thought they were all made on the 1917 Enfield. I wish I could go buy a book about A-Square...and find a 6.5-06 made by them.

A Squares were built on multiple actions. The Enfield is one of those. I own the last A Square built. It is a .416 Taylor built on a Zastava action.

I just recall the (custom made) Enfield-style (Long Mag Actions) and Winchester-style (Std Length) actions made by A-Sq in SD. They are/were shooters! I know the company fell into others hands later on and changes were made until it was virtually extinguished. The Enfield-styles are like an Enfield on steroids! The .338 A-Sq (predecessor to the .338-378 Wby) shoots all shots touching, recoils like any .300 or 7 mag, and in capable hands (with good optics) can drop anything like a bad habit to about 1,500 yds. Extreme but very true. As they stopped making my favorite MRX bullets, I'm just now tinkering with the 265 LRXs....More practical, the .338-06 A-Sq is a great combo deer/bear/elk (and plains game) round at more modest range. It's a shame...at some point (for revenue, to pay investors, creditors) a big company must pump out products (i.e. black plastic from walmart that's not of superior quality,) and Art Alphin refused to manufacture such junk and the end result spoke for itself to the audience it was designed for. Not for everyone, as they were a more costly-to-produce custom gun destined to perform in the game fields. He refused to cut corners. Art so impressed Weatherby with his cartridge standardizations, many of them were available in the Wby line (including their Norma-produced Ammo.) I bought one A-Sq gun from a fellow nearby (had he shown me his others that he sold the following year, I would've bought them all on the spot.) All CRFs. No push feeds.

I wouldn't worry about proper headstamps on the 6.5-06. You'll run into no trouble. A std 06 round won't even chamber in the gun and in 7 trips to Africa no one has ever checked the headstamps of anything. Make 'em out of .270 cases if you can't find any (it's what i do for the .264-300 WSM). Just neck size w/ the 6.5 die and you have the brass you need.
