I like the 7mm STW. Have you taken one to Africa?

I have not but that is a great cartridge. I would not hesitate to take that for all the plains game animals. Bullet choice is a critical decision no ballistic tip bullets. Let that dog bark!

I have not, but a good friend who has hunted Africa 30 times always takes his 7mm STW and swears by it. I have killed N.A. big game with mine, but never took it to Africa.

175 gr 7mm bullet may be the most perfect bullet in existence for non-DG animals.

High SD, generally high BC, and generally milder recoil than any of the "thumping 30s"

175 gr 7mm will always punch way above its weight. A close 2nd goes to 155-160 gr 6.5mm.

I’ve used the STW in the South West for Coues Deer and Desert Mule Deer as a lot of shots can be at very long range… I love the STW and the 264 WinMag for this hunting!!!
But the 7mm REM Mag has done very well on plains game in Africa so I’m sure the STW will too! Though probably not needed?

What bullet do you recommend?
I have been shooting TSX in 175gr.

That 175 grain TSX will work quite well.

If I owned one I wouldn't hesitate after researching it due to my coworker using one for everything in Alaska. If reloading, The 150 gr Barnes TTSX or 168 gr LRX would drop any plains game with authority.

No, I haven’t and I used a hired 7mmRm .

After returning from Africa I met with late member @brucemoulds he had experience with the 7 STW and others.
I spoke with other members and settled on a .280ai

Bruce’ mate @jcinsa also used to read here and post a little.

7stw for Africa, why not.

I’ve used mine a bunch on deer and elk with a 160 nosler Accubond. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it to Africa. It is good to know the ph has a rental if my ammo doesn’t make it or some other unlikely malady occurs.
Sadly I think the 7 stw is fading fast due to the new, highly marketed fast 7’s.
I'll be honest, I prefer my 28 nosler, a rifle I bought just because it was too good a deal to pass up. . .

Also a fan of 7mm’s!

I’m taking my 7mm-08 to Mozambique for PG next year. I’m using a 150 grain TTSX.

I’m pretty impressed with the rifle so far. I took a Texas Whitetail at about 90 yards last week, the shot was a devastating broadside double lung, a complete pass through. The deer hardly walked 10 yards before starting his transition to sausage.

Good luck with the STW!

I shoot the 7mm RUM and took it to Africa for PG. Shot 13 animals with it and used the 160 gr Barnes TSX.
It performed with authority.
If I took it today I would shoot the Barnes 145 gr LRX. That is the bullet I use the most in my 7mm RUM.
Your STW will do just fine using a premium bullet.
