I use a SKB 2 gun case (not the one Pictured) it has gone from Texas to Minnesota to the Netherlands to SA to France and back to Minnesota and it shows very little sign Of wear and also no lock or hinge failure, and I bought it second hand

Norfolk shooter: Check another SKB website, the one for sports equipment: https://www.skbcases.com/sports/sku.php?cat=16&pid=74
SKB backs their product up with a pretty good guarantee too (see below)

I have 3 SKB cases. One for golf clubs, a 2 gun rifle case and a bow case. All are well built and durable. All have wheels on one end. The bow case is newer and has TSA locks. I have used the golf club case for rifles once, sort of like the Tuffpak but with better access since it opens up. I put three rifle in soft cases, plus some clothes for addittional padding. Works well. The 2 gun rifle case uses a foam pad between the rifles. If I am only taking one rifle, I leave the foam pad at home and can put a few clothing articles in the gun case.

I use the duble rifle skb case it seems to work well no problems so far, but one corner is crushed in from what I can only describe as abuse by the Arline's since the plastic is pretty thick.

I have no experience with this model as I use a TuffPak, but I do have experience with the SKB bow/archery cases. The SKB model I have is built like a tank. I have yet to travel via an airline with the case, but I have no doubt it would hold up to the abuse luggage handlers can dish out. I still think the TuffPak is a better option, but only if you can get one easily. In your case, if you can get the SKB golf club case more easily, then I vote to go with it. It looks to be well made, but having never handled one, I don't know.....

I think SKB in general is pretty good stuff. I do like the way the golf case opens horizontally versus vertically. That's the one knock on the TuffPak. It can be a pain in the proverbial rear to pull all of your gear out of one at the airport for inspection. I've only had to do this one or two times, but it's a pain. However, I think this also what makes the TuffPak strong as it's one continuous piece of tough, roto-molded plastic without any hinges to break. If you're thinking about a traditional, flat roto-molded case, it's hard to beat the Pelican cases. They're really good.

As usual, just my 2 cents.....Caveat Emptor

My experience has actually been exactly the opposite and it is what I like about the tuffpak over the horizontal case.

I actually find just unzipping the softcase while still on the tuffpak and pulling out the rifle to be quite easy. I've found that all I have to do is pull them far enough out to show the serial numbers. The only time I was required to pull them all the way out was Zimbabwe.

Now I will also admit I bought the sack that goes with the tuffpak and that definitely makes packing easier.

Definitely agree. I think it would be a mistake not to get the bag - not sure how you'd manage all the stuff moving around . . .

I have the standard SKB golf case.2 trips Africa..6 trips Alaska,...No problems..Pack 2 or3 guns plus other clothes..Very happy..Put in soft cases and clothes and boots around them..

I understand that the Tuffpak was originally designed to hold movie/tv camera tripods, hence the end opening. Given that they were apparently designed for the movie industry, you could probably get one at a good price by asking a local production company where to buy them.

Even if they do not use that brand, they are likely to have a trade magazine lying around with a UK supplier's advertisement inside it.

Tried already. A friend of mine has a film production company but the cases are too short and my rifle is 4 foot long!!! once in a soft case bit longer.

Norfolk Shooter: I checked on Amazon UK website and as you already mentioned, the Tuffpak is not available in the UK. However, multiple models of the SKB "Golf" cases and true gun case that seem to be available in the UK, at a decent price and delivery. There are two SKB that are similar to the TuffPak.

Take a look at these:
SKB 2SKB-R5017W Rotationally Moulded ATA Transportation Stand (1245 x 292 x 330 mm)

SKB Standard ATA Golf Travel Case - Black

SKB Double Rifle Transport 5009 Case - Black

I have the Model 5009 double Case, I replaced two of the locks with 2 more TSA locks (available from SKB) plus there are two additional spots for padlocks, a bit of overkill and a little more hassle at Tambo

I'd like something that dosnt look like a rifle case so the golf cases are perfect. The only problem being the internal length not being quite big enough. I guess its going to have to be a tuffpak after all.

Tuffpak lists its internal length as being 50 inches, same as the SKB R5017W

One thing I am a little suspicious with on the SKB model is whether airlines will accept this. When you look at other cases, there is refence to "airline approved" or "ATA" etc. Not on this model though.
