As draw results are being released who drew a tag they have been waiting forever for?

Alaska released that info a couple months back. I drew a mountain goat I'd been putting in for a couple/few years now on a whim because I know where they are. I just have no idea if I'll ever get a reasonable shot since they rarely get off the nearly vertical face of rock long enough and far enough away from to take that shot. So, we'll see...

I have had no luck this year for:
CO sheep, goat
ID goat
UT everything
MT sheep and goat

I have between 12 and 19 points for those species depending on state and species. These days, for sheep and goat, 19 points won't get you even decent odds as a nonresident.

Hoping for something from NV, but doubt it.
May burn some WY and MT antelope points depending on if I get lucky on NV sheep or elk.

Will hunt my home state of ID for deer, elk and lions with my hounds and possibly CO OTC elk.

Hope some AH.com members pull some nice tags! Fingers crossed for NV.

I'm 0 for Everything so far...but only put in for sheep and goat.

But that includes AK, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, New Mexico...so far. I also put in for a long shot elk tag in Arizona. Still building points but I am pretty much in no man's land.

Still a few more states and raffles in play, one day I will get lucky.

Here in Saskatchewan the draw application deadline is May 25 so I haven’t got it done yet. Have to put in for myself, wife, Dad and brother so hopefully someone gets drawn for something. Results come out in early July at the latest.

Son-in-law and I drew Montana elk/deer combo tags.

I also applied for a Wyoming moose tag, but did not draw. I only have 18 preference points. Every year, it's the same story: I am one or two points shy of drawing. Each year, the goal posts move!

The Utah dedicated hunter program allows the tag holder to hunt all three seasons (archery, muzzle loader, and general rifle) for 3 years in the same unit. However he can only harvest 2 buck deer. Once into the program he has to perform XX amount of service hours on projects that the DOW sets up. If he can't do the hours he can buy them out.

I myself drew nothing in Utah. I do however have a Lifetime hunting license which gives me a deer tag of my choice every year. The limited entry units are excluded.

I still have my fingers crossed for Colorado and Wyoming and deer in Arizona

JimP Summed it up very nicely. I already did my service hours doing some taxidermy for the Farmington bay visitors center.
I hunt deer and antelope in Wyoming as often as I can draw. Have had some good times up there, also love to hunt sage grouse and once in awhile the early goose hunt pulls me across the border. Turkeys up there are good too-one of these years I need to drop the cash and use up my elk points-

Wyoming non-resident preference points can be purchased each year for each species. When I started 18 years ago, moose and bighorn sheep pref points were $7.50 each. That lasted for about 5-6 years and then overnight they went sky high. Moose and sheep now cost$150 per point. You can purchase one point per year per species. You're allowed to skip one year but if you skip more than that, you loose all your accumulated points.

Each year the state publishes the draw results and odds. This year I paid my fee to draw, about $1800 and did not draw. So the state will automatically switch me over to purchase a preference point and refund me the rest of my money. Then I get to do it all over next year. When the draw occurs, imagine a row of buckets or hats labeled 1 to 25. Let's say there is one applicant with 2o preference points so his name is in the "20" bucket. There are four with 19 (4 names in the "19" bucket) and 20 with less than 19 points. The quota for this area is 3 antlered moose tags for non-residents (see Hunt Area 3 below). They guy with 20 points had 100% chance of drawing. This leaves two tags left and 4 guy with 19 pts drawing, so they had a 50% chance to draw a tag.

The entire systems is much more complicated and expensive than needs to be, in my opinion. I've booked a British Columbia moose hunt for 2021. It costs more, but when you want to hunt you can hunt.

Wyoming is actually a little more complicated than that as there is a random pool as well.

But in summary, it is really hard to draw some premier tags, the states have made it way to complicated in order to appease everyone, and it is now a major way for agency's to get additional revenue.

As an example, I have had a Nevada hunting license for 10 years and actually stepped into the state for the first time past Feb. Overall I buy licenses in 10 states every year and probably actually hunt two or three. I am sure there are many people like me.

So when states says hunter numbers are dropping and use license sales as their baseline, I am always skeptical that maybe people got sick of the points game or drew the tag they wanted and are now out.

I have drawn very few permits in 25 years plus of applying. I look at it as a wildlife donation, nothing more and nothing less.

Alaska is straight up random. You just never know. And I for one prefer it that way.

While I haven't drawn that many great tags in the draws I did draw a coues deer tag in Arizona two years running. The first year I cashed in 9 points and drew the tag, that tag was used in a nice salad. The next year I just applied for the same unit again and drew the tag the second time. This time I sealed the deal on a B&C coues buck.

The big thing is that if you want to play the game you have to play by their rules.

Your right Phil. Been applying since 2000.
I'm super lucky to have drawn that either set mountain goat tag. I'm excited. Plus the added bonus I get to take my 32 year old son on a pack in wilderness hunt.
Who knows maybe ill draw a moose tag. But not holding my breath.
I've been assured that there is a plethora of oxygen at 14000 feet.
