So, I accept the notion that a properly loaded .223 can be an adequate rifle for small-bodied deer (Hill Country for instance). However this idiot is recommended FMJ’s (cheap ones) and Hornady varmint loads for deer. And his audience is apparently applauding him!

Any idiot with a keyboard.......

Would the 223 be good for antilops? Lol. Sorry, couldn’t resist!

And somewhere right now there is someone singing the praises of this high speed 22 as a deer round.

And the 556 like the 762 x 39 CAN kill deer, but that hardly makes either a deer round.

Thanks Dwight, but I read the comments and decided that the article was probably too technical for me. ;)

Unbelievable, and hard to finish. First, the writer's first language must not be English. No problem with that, but unless you're translating instructions from Chines into English, have someone who actually speaks the language read it over first!

Then one idiotic statement after another. I won't argue that a .223 can't kill a deer - of course it can, with a well-placed shot. But the best caliber for deer? Seriously? In very limited circumstances, maybe, but the .30-06 didn't get to where it is by shooting elephant.

It's unfortunate that there isn't someone on these sites who can correct this type of information. Can you imagine the comments if he'd posted this on that other "accurate" hunting site?!!

Wonder where that is.

One of my favorite expressions......Idiots are everywhere!

I thought it was a joke until I read the bio and saw that the author was an expert.

So I guess all my laughing and tooth grinding was just showing my own ignorance.

:)

I gave up after a few sentences. I was unaware that there was a 223 Winchester round, wow am I ignorant or what?

We need to spend less time in the loading room, at the range, and in the field and more time reading opines from experts like this guy!

Oh my Gosh, here we go again!

I did not instantly click on the underlying humor of the post title, and took it seriously, so, I swear, when my eye was instantly caught by Red Leg's avatar and I read his post, before reading Dwight Beagle's post, I looked back to see who the original poster was, and I was, for the life of me, ready to see that this came from a new member named 223R.

The opening salvo is priceless (my emphases)!

" Some deer hunters will prefer a bullet weighing 50 grains while others will prefer one that weighs 70 grains. Hand loaders have some very convinced parameters, and those who buy factory loads at the store are less discriminating. You should know that the effectiveness of a specific type of ammo depends on the reputation of the brand. The best caliber to buy is the 223 for deer hunting."

Don't know about the rest, I was already convinced and rushed to GunBroker.com to buy a new .223 deer blaster.

Who on earth is Shawn Harrison?

Maybe he was referring to the 223 WSSM? I noticed in his credentials he attended a hunter safety training class. That definitely qualifies him as an expert.
For even more enlightening entertainment, read his expert advice on the best ten long range rifles. Too funny.

Well ..... he did live in Alaska. The really pathetic thing are those commenting as they fall all over themselves thanking him for sharing his "wisdom".

Do not miss BEST DEER RIFLE: HUNTING FOR THE PERFECT BUCK RIFLE (http://wildernessmastery.com/hunting/best-deer-rifle.html) and if something seems intuitively slightly off with the cover pic, just scroll down until you see an illustration of the perfect deer rifle:

More disturbing were the comments below the piece agreeing with this mental midget!:eek::eek:o_Oo_O
Do you guys think they expunge unfavorable comments from this type of sites?

His "mastery" of writing leaves much to be desired! What an ultra maroon!

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
