Hunting reports

Just booked my first trip to Africa. I am going in May 2012. I have lots of time to plan but am looking for help on what to bring. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First off, congrats on booking the big trip! I've made a serious list of things to bring, and knocked about half of them off. If you'll be in South Africa, it should be chilly in May so stock up on comfy warm clothes and practice shooting in like weather with full gear. Pay careful attention when filling out your SAPS 520 form and communicate with your outfitter regularly to build a relationship. Best of luck!

Thank you! We are hunting with African Sky Safaris, and are hunting Kudu, Warthog, Blue Wildebeest and Impala. My Dad is adding a Sable to his list, and after a few helpful emails to help update their website... the outfitters were kind enough to add an extra Impala to say 'thanks'. Very exciting.

get your long term planning on a checklist and things will flow very smoothly...

Great advice. And dont wait until last minute to use it.

There is some good info on AH and you can add to that by searching, planning timelines on the net.
There are hundreds of lists. Start here and add to it.
Then decide on what you really need.
How long you are going will impact your list. 7 days versus 3 weeks. etc.
Good luck a happy planning.

I am hunting in Namibia with Omalanga Safaris. I booked it through Cabelas so to take off some of the pressure of having all the forms and stuff perfect. I am hunting kudu, gemsbok, warthog, red hartebeest, springbuck duiker and impala. This is my "package".

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
