For Sale English .375 H&H Mauser Action

Hi all, it has come to the point in life when I have got to sacrifice my best rifles for personal reasons.
So for sale is my best .375 H&H, it is made by an English gun maker Medwell and Perrett of Suffolk. It is a beautiful rifle, very well balance and shoots perfectly. I have had it completely checked over and cleaned throughout (not that it needed it) the bore and barrel are in mint condition as it has only had a couple of hundred rounds through it, it is built on a Mauser 98 action I believe. I have had the woodwork taken right back re-checkered and refinished in London best oil finish so any dents, scratches and scrapes made in the future can be sanded out and refinished. I have also had all the blueing refinished and a new silvers pad fitted. I just put a new Westley Richards leather sling on the rifle and a new Swarovski z8i 1.7-13.3x42P on top of the original swing off mounts. I have just in the past couple of months done all this work ready for my next hunt in August but I will be borrowing a rifle for this safari now. This rifle is as good as brand new in every way and a new one would cost £12000+ with the attachment if you could even get one made. I would like £8500 with everything included for it but would be open for offers, especially if it s a quick sale. Thank you all for looking.

A bit of better photo of the rifle as the room is very dark were I took the pictures and it makes the walnut seem almost black and you cant see the piece of ebony on the for end of the gun.

@Stalker91 that is a very nice safari rifle you have there. Just a friendly bit of feedback...you need to market that locally in the UK, it will never sell in North America. In North America there are two markets: 1.) Entry level utilitarian safari rifles like CZ, Winchester, and BRNO, and 2.) Premium vintage British Safari rifles from Tier-1 and Tier-2 makers.

Really nice modern custom guns sell in the States for about $0.15 on the dollar.

I'm not knocking your gun in any way, I'm knocking North American's tastes and willingness to pay for premium, modern, used guns.

@rookhawk thank you for your advise. I am going to market it on the UK sites over the next couple of weeks and maybe send it to the British shooting show next week as well. I know it’s expensive to ship abroad ect. I just wanted to give the AfricaHunting community a chance at it first as I hoped they would appreciate it more than most would, and find it a good home.

I think the comments by Rookhawk hit the nail on the head.

A riflemaker in the UK was recently showing me a new traditional; stalking rifle he’d just built for a client. It had a stunning walnut stock & cost just over 20,000 pounds Sterling (the stock blank; engraved magazine floor plate; swing-off mounts & scope alone were a fair part of that) – the maker said that whilst he could justify his costs he knew that the ‘used’ price of the rifle would be a third of that (albeit that value would remain then remain fairly firm). We agreed that traditionally constructed bespoke rifles are labours of love for maker & owner – they are not good financial investments – but they can the most wonderful investments in hopes, dreams & experiences. In that sense they are beyond value.

Double Gun Headquarters in US has one close to $10K. Your scope is much better. Auction estimates are just that.

It is a bit higher than some found on the auction sites but it’s a nicer rifle and I’ve just spent a lot having it all made like new. And with the new £2500 scope on it also.

Bare in mind that listing was from 2013 so prices have gone up a bit and it will have 20% sale commission minimum and then 20% VAT on the price it gets sold for.

Simpson LTD can import it for you and they are very reasonable.
