Fritz Weiss Suhl Germany Drilling....is this a gem or a dodo??

I can get this drilling but I know nothing about the maker.....
12ga/12ga and what I believe to be 6.5x52R with 30 inch barrels....

I need some advise on this one before I take the plunge....

It is a hammer gun opens via underlever and closes like a bank volt....

Nope this one has 6.2mm stamped on the rifle barrel which to my knowledge is actually .257-.259 caliber...Germans call it 6.5x52R
117gr bullet at about 2300fps...I think

Perfect tiny ten rifle looks like....especially for the forest species....anything qithin 40 yards could be in trouble....

You're a damn fool if you don't buy that for $950!! I don't think I have seen a gun of that old vintage in such pristine order with vivid case colors, blueing and on face. Are the bores that pristine as well? Even clunkers bring that price. Would send pics of proof marks to DoubleGunshopJournal for further identification about yr of manufacture, tube knitter mechanic, etc. Great find. I would take it in a heartbeat and don't even need it.

I don’t believe I have ever seen a drilling in decent shape for $1000 from what I can see it looks like this one is in good enough shape that it would not be a bad deal but I don’t know that gun too well.

Probably half the guns and rifles built in Suhl prior to the Second World War were built for gun dealers and marked with those names. I suspect that is likely with this lovely drilling. The only actual gunmaker with that name of which I am aware worked in the 18th century.

A hammer drilling like this with island locks could have been built anytime from 1890’s to just before WWII. The 13/1 is likely the date code indicating January 1913. This would be commensurate with its fluid steel barrels and nitro proofing. I would have to assume it has had some restoration. If that is correct, the charcoal case coloring was really well done.

Am traveling and don’t have any references with me, but would agree it is likely a 6.5x52r. A chamber cast is always good insurance to make certain someone didn’t try to turn it into a 6.5x57r or whatever. Assuming it is, the 25-35 will often chamber, though correct loads would be best and more likely to match those sights.

Yes, this would be a 2.5 inch load (12 bore is remarkable). Assuming everything functions as intended, the key is barrel condition. Assuming they are clean, it is fine gun for a little more than half what it would run in the States.

I was in the same position years ago and pulled the trigger and bought cause I thought it was cool. The problem is that there is not a huge market for them. For 950 you will make money if you don’t include your time in answering emails and dealing with idiots that waste time. I would ask are you just buying it to resell? Or do you plan to use it at least some. For 950 yes buy it if you want to use it some.
