Morning all. Shot a giraffe bull in Namibia, thought we might have gun cases made after seeing some online. Now having trouble finding someone to work with giraffe. Does anyone have a recommendation? Thanks.

Top of Texas (Amarillo) did a few cases and pillows for me, and they are beautiful. Erick, "Gizmo" (AH handle) can help you. I have also seen a pair of handmade boots that were incredible.

Most inexpensive option with a Giraffe would be to use Namibian taxidermist especially for tanning. I tanned in African and shipped to USA.

@Justbryan, thanks. We’re also having tanning done in Namibia. Talked to several folks @SCI about working with the hide and came up empty, hide too thick, too difficult.

Hide can be thinned to work on in most cases .

A sticking point now days on Giraffe is they are now CITES listed so traveling internationally or maybe interstate is or can be more difficult !

I stopped bringing bone home for knife guys because of this .

Yes we were about 5 hours north of Windhoek near Otavi. Hunted with Afrihunts.

Justine at MHS has done incredible leather work for me and has experience (I believe) working with giraffe. You may need to have the hide thinned for it to be workable for leather goods.

Coincidentally, I’m about to send her some more work this month.

@gizmo and his Top of Texas Taxidermy are mounting a giraffe in their shop right now. I am sure they can help you out

Do you have the hide back? I know my machines can stitch it (my machines will do 1” thick), but you still want it thinned for the application.

I’m just curious how this it actually is.

When thinned and tanned it’s not thick at all. I had one done years ago but not made into anything.
I’ve thought about this very thing.

I’ve used pachy supplied by customers and it isn’t all that thick as it comes from the tannery. I can’t imagine the giraffe being thicker, but if the tannery doesn’t split it, it would be much too thick to do much with.

If you go back to Namibia again. There are a lot of good options there for leatherwork there. Much better pricing than in US too.

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!
