That'll work. :A Thumbs Up:

Got to love an old Savage 99

Yep, a great old gun those 99(s). Mine is a 308, at one time I spoke to a gunsmith about swapping the barrel to 7mm 08 but when he asked my why, I couldn't really justify my reasons for wanting to do so. I have other 308s but still don't own a 7mm 08. As far as using one on P.G. there is no reason why it won't work as well on them, as it has for white tails over the years.

Should be good medicine :A Way To Go:

I also had a Savage 99 in 308, beauty of a rifle and a good shooter as well.
As I recall it was light in the field and easy to carry.
Ended up trading it for a pistol some years ago, should have kept the 99.

Good luck with your safari.

The 99's were way ahead of their time and are a joy to hunt with.
I like the 99 EG in .300

Joe,
And I thought I was the only one that took my guns on romantic walks in the woods to photograph them in their natural environment! Lol
My 99 is in 30-30 and plan on getting one in 300 one of these days.
@tarbe and I have been talking about an elk hunt using only 30-40 Krag rifles. A few years ago I would have scoffed at the idea of leaving my Super Dupper balanced and blue printed duel overhead cam ultra magnum at home to hunt elk! Just bought an 1895 30-40 krag yesterday just for this purpose. Got to love enabling buddies for sure!

If it was good enough for Gramps, it ought to be good enough for us (especially with modern boolits).

Must wear wool, too!

Drawing the line at the wool, makes my butt itch! Can’t hunt with an itchy butt!

My first rifle was a Savage Model 99 in 308. I shot my first deer and elk with that rifle. It had a K3 Weaver scope in flip over scope mounts so you could swing the scope off to the side and use the open sights if need be. It was my grandmother's rifle. I've since retired that rifle to the safe and picked up another 99 to beat around the woods with.
I wonder what you could do now with the 250-3000 (250 Savage) with modern powders and bullets.....

Over the years I have picked quite a few 99' s .

I bought a 99 sentenial in 308 from Woolworths for 59.95 and it has exactly 0 rounds through it. It just looked too pretty to use.

My faves are the 250 savage' s especially the one that is a takedown. I have used them on deer to groundhogs, yotes.

7x57Joe, that scoped version looks like "the perfect deer rifle." I don't own a rifle in 300 Savage but would be proud to take this one off your hands if you ever decide to sell it.

Shootist43, I'm in agreement with you on "the perfect deer rifle" and I'll add "the perfect deer cartridge". I have taken several deer with that rifle since acquiring it in 1977 and made my first cast bullet kill with it in the same year. I can't remember ever using a jacketed bullet in it for any of the deer. I have reached the age where I'm thinking about selling some off but, I can't decide which one to start with.;)

Yes, whenever ghosting through the woods and game is scarce, sometimes a photo-op occurs. Wonder how many animals I've not seen by doing that! The .30-40 elk hunt sounds like a capital idea and a lot of fun to boot. Congrats on getting the 1895 Krag, wonderful rifles and will certainly lay an elk low. Would love to see a pic or 4 of it.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
