Hello all,
My name is Greg and I've been hunting for the better part of 30 years with my family. It's mostly been deer hunting and bird hunting, but I've always had the itch to go on an African hunt.

I've put together quite a nice collection of rifles and shotguns for deer and birds, but last year I decided to really start socking some money away for an African trip in the future.

I was considering what rifle to purchase and after visiting Griffin & Howe quite a few times, the CZ 550 American safari magnum in .375 Holland and Holland seems to be a good choice for the first DG rifle.
I mounted a Leupold 2-7x33 with G4 reticle on it using Warne QD rings.

I intend on using it for black bear and russian boar this coming season in order to break it in and get comfortable with it… At least until I can get the Africa!

Welcome to the wonderful world of African hunting. This is THE site for researching that longed for trip to the Dark Continent. Good Luck on the bear and boar hunt.

Welcome to the great forum Gred.
CZ550 in 375 H&H is very good rifle for Africa.
Good luck and all the best Witold

Welcome to AH!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I just ordered the Warne "medium" height rings #14BLM to mount the scope. I'm hoping there's enough clearance for the bolt throw to clear the ocular bell of the scope. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Welcome Greg Great Choice of Rifle and Caliber

Welcome Greg... great rifle choice for African hunt and best of luck getting your first African hunt done & dusted.

hi welcome aboard :D Beers: and now you have your light calibre rifle you can start looking for something a bit more in the medium range :E Big Grin: oh and good you put New Jersey ,as when i am in the states it nearly ends up in an argument with some people when they ask where i am from, and i say Jersey. this leads to "no your not you dont sound like it"!! and i say i didnt say New Jersey i said Jersey , and they say yes but you dont sound like you are from there.........:E Doh:so repeat this same conversation a few times :A Bang Head:...till i eventually i give in and have to give a geography lesson, which as geography doesnt seem to be taught in usa schools too much is also a mission ......so after the 3rd or so time each trip of this, i just say zambia as some know where africa is ;) :D Cheers:

Haha, I get that all the time Spike....
And yes, I'm sure a 416 or 458 will be the next thing to plan for. I figured the best path to follow was the 375, since I can get my feet wet with CZ and use it here in the states.
My brother last night suggested a moose hunt, and he wants to start planning.....

Cut your teeth on the 375... the rest will follow!!!

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
