Looks like a old K4

It could be a 4x38 but you would need to do some measuring to find out for sure.

My “old” K4 was only metal stamped and didn’t have white paint in it. Also it was stamped K4. Mine was an early 1950s. The forming was soft and rounded and it was all steel.
Sorry, that’s about it from me.
Good luck figuring it out. Oh, doesn’t Leupold own the name now? You might email them. If it’s serialized that would help.

I have a Weaver M4R 4X steel tube scope I used from 1983 until 2014 on my M70 3006. 1 inch tube, but objective lens is smaller than the one you asking for help identifying. It is still in great shape, but as thought, the lens isn't nearly as clear as a modern scope. Ran a quick check on ebay and found one for $89. Some expired auction sites had them cheaper. But if you want this one, it will cost you a lot more.....just because!

Does it say Made in El Paso? If so those were excellent scopes. In the old days Weaver was a top of the line American made scope. Then the company fell on hard times and was bought out sold and bought again. I purchased a number of old K4(s) made in El Paso to put on the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mausers I'm giving to my grandchildren.

Looks like it might possibly be the Weaver K4 Classic series that came out a few years back. These were retro releases that has the classic steel tube and old Weaver scroll that were new production. Came in a commemorative tin. retailed for mid $300s

That would be my guess also- a much more recent "Weaver", probably Asian origin. That is not an old, steel tube El Paso Weaver. The old ones don't have a radiused transition between the bell and tube shoulder joints and don't have a polished and blued finish like the one shown. The Weaver logo on the turret bolster does not look old. And the turret caps don't look old style.

Agreed.

Modern scope. The company calls them Classic 4x but most of us still call them K4.

Big difference between K scopes (steel and aluminum alloy versions) and the Classic scopes (aluminum alloy and steel versions) is that the Classics have a bit more magnification. When Meade Optical got involved: the K2.5 (2.3x) was replaced with the Classic 2.5 (2.5); the K4 (3.7x) was replaced with the Classic 4x (4x); and the K6 (5.7x) was replaced with the Classic 6x (6x). The V3-9 (2.8-8.7x) was replaced with the Classic 3-9 (3-9x). Time for a change after fifty (50) odd years?

All the Classic optics and above are made by Light Optic Works in Japan, i.e. the guys who make the Nightforce SHV scopes and various other quality optics. The Kaspar range, etc. are made in the Philippines, according to my recollection.

Leopold owns Redfield now.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
