Here is where the .405 Winchester would be minimum, but welcome!

44-40- eh? :) Walking along square bottomed pathways that have been beaten deep over the years where these big bears live, especially if visibility is limited, does give pause. Studying fresh tracks of a 10ft brown bear then looking at your rifle makes you second guess all manner of things like, "This gun is not big enough".

If anyone tent camps in bear country, I recommend reading a few chapters from Larry Kanuit's book, Alaska Bear Tales, under Coleman lantern light. :):)

I have no desire to go up against a grizzly with anything but to be one state away!

44 Mag revolver with 44 Mag loads as a back-up. However, although not used, it does have a 44-40 conversion cylinder.

Marlin 1894CB 44-40, loaded with 240gr lead bullets @ 1,400fps, zeroed in for 100 yards. The bear trail cam video, the bear walked less then 50 feet from the front of the stand at 5:45 am....I am a bit happy I was a tad late that morning!!

Saw a good looking knife you posted a pic of with the watermelon. Can I ask the make? Looks like you hunted with Guav Johnson? We overlapped in the Save once. Would like to hunt with him one day..
